The Isley Brothers

Categories: Entertainment | Music | R&B | Soul
  • The Isley Brothers started out as a doo-wop band with hits such as Shout! and Twist and Shout in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1970s and 1980s the group began to perform funk-based music with songs such as Footsteps in the Dark, and smooth-R&B in the 1990s and 2000s with songs such as Contagious featuring R. Kelly.

The Isley Brothers have enjoyed one of the longest, most influential, and most diverse careers in the pantheon of popular music. Over the course of nearly a half century of performing, the group's history has spanned not only two generations of Isley siblings but also massive cultural shifts which heralded their music's transformation from gritty R&B; to Motown soul to blistering funk.
