The Informant Synopsis
The Informant is a 2009 film based on the true life story of Mark Whitacre, played by Matt Damon. Whitacre wore a wire for the FBI for three years to uncover a price fixing scam at Archer Daniels Midland. The company pleaded guilty in a high profile case and was fined 100 million dollars. But as a result of the pressure of wearing a wire for so long, Whitacre allegedly suffered a mental breakdown, which also might have contributed to his bipolar disorder. He was eventually convicted of a white collar crime himself and ironically ended up serving more time in prison, then the people he originally helped to put away.Herald & Review: Mark Whitacre, talks about The Informant (April 6, 2008)
