Annaïg Hoïnart, a seventeen-year-old Breton girl, and her friend Mere-Glim (Glim), an Argonian, accidentally fly onto Umbriel and are captured by its inhabitants; Sul, a Dunmer, joins Prince Attrebus Mede, the twenty-two-year-old son of Emperor Titus Mede, in a search for a way to stop the city; and Colin, an Inspector for the Penitus Oculatus, searches for the Prince. Their adventures take them along the first steps in attempting to stop the latest threat to Tamriel.
