The Hobbit is the upcoming live-action film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel of the same name from 1937. A sequel is scheduled to be shot simultaneously, to be released one year later. The films were announced in December 2007, and are scheduled to be released in 2011 and 2012. Guillermo Del Toro is signed on to direct this prequel to the The Lord of the Rings Film Series, with Peter Jackson still producing and writing.
