The Hills is shot in a documentary, reality show style using mostly hand-held cameras to film the daily happenings of the show's various cast members. Due to this format and the shows knack for capturing dramatic and significant moments, many critics and audience members have speculated that the show is not truly real and that, although not scripted, scenes may be set up specifically for filming. -
