• Considered to be one of the best film scores of 2007, The Golden Compass soundtrack features themes and leitmotifs similar to that of John Williams's work with the Star Wars films and Howard Shore's work with The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

  Though some did not find composer Alexandre Desplat's melodies for Compass as memorable as the aforementioned works, the soundtrack was praised by most film score critics.

  Kate Bush wrote and performed a song for the film called "Lyra."
