  • Career

The early Germs, which briefly included future Go-Gos singer Belinda Carlisle, was more inspired by attitude than a desire to make music. Only guitarist Pat Smear was a musician. Gradually the Germs found a place in the early Los Angeles punk rock scene and developed into a competent studio band. Their live performances were more spectacle than musical performance, with lead singer Darby Crash often too intoxicated to sing. Crash committed suicide in 1980. The band re-formed in 2005.
