This 1930 silent comedy is one of Alfred Hitchcock's earliest works. The movie stars Jameson Thomas as a cantankerous older man looking for a suitable second wife. It was not among Hitchcock's favorites of his many films.

Plot Synopsis
In The Farmer's Wife, widower and farmer Samuel Sweetland, played by Jameson Thomas, having just had his only daughter marry, decides to seek a new wife. He considers several different women, only some of whom would also consider him, before discovering his perfect match has been right in front of him all along.http://allmovie.com/work/the-farmers-wife-16820Reviews
"It is a lethargic affair with ingenuous fun. It has been nicely directed with a keen eye for the sunlight and shadows over the winding country roads, and the indoor scenes are always correct as to furnishings."http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/review?_r=1&res=9B00E5DB1339E43ABC4F53DFB766838B629EDE&partner=Rotten%20Tomatoes"This early Hitchcock silent film (a comedy, no less) is probably only going to be of interest to Hitchcock enthusiasts, and even then they're going to have to be rabidly enthusiastic."http://www.filmcritic.com/misc/emporium.nsf/reviews/The-Farmers-Wife
