• The Eye is an American remake of Jian Gui, a horror film by renowned Thai filmmakers The Pang Brothers. The plot of the film concerns a woman who underwent an experimental eye transplant surgery to restore her vision, only to find that she was seeing much more than she bargained for.
  • Not Quite J-Horror

After the rousing success of The Ring, producers were eager to remake many of the best horror movies Japan had to offer. These movies all fit into a genre often called J-Horror which feature several stylistic and thematic attributes common to movies made in this style. Included in among these are The Grudge, Dark Water, and One Missed Call. Although the original version of The Eye fits into this category in a thematic and stylistic sense, it was a Thai production made by Thai filmmakers and actors. Nonetheless, being lumped in with other J-Horror movies did not hurt it: in fact, it was very likely part of the reason it was remade by an American production team.
