Joining the Mages Guild
- It really couldn't be easier to join the Guild.
- Ask any one of the Guild Hall leaders and they'll make you an associate of the Mages Guild.
- You really aren't in the Guild yet though.
- You have to receive a recommendation from each of the seven guild halls before they'll let you into the Arcane University in Imperial City.
- Note: I'm just listing these in alphabetical order for the sheer sake of simplicity. You can go in whatever order you want.
-
-
Anvil Recommendation
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Mage's Guild: Anvil Recommendation (Time: 5:57)
- The Mages Guild building is to the left of the main square when you enter Anvil.
- It's the big hall with giant blue banners. You can't miss it.
- Head inside and track down Carahil.
- She'll give you a combat challenge.
- Okay, it's really just a basic order that involves playing decoy.
- A rouge mage has been killing traders on the road out of Anvil.
- She wants you to draw them out so the Guild can kill them.
- Go to Brina Cross Inn.
- It is a bit north of Anvil along the main road.
- Arielle Jurard will be waiting for you inside.
- Receive your full instructions from her.
- Check in with the Innkeeper and make sure you mention that you are a traveling merchant.
- On your way up the steps a woman in a blue dress will stop you.
- Her name is Caminalda. She'll act strange and confirm that you're a merchant. Just say yes.
- Now who do you think the rouge might be?
- Your room is the one at the end of the hall.
- Go in and stand around for a minute
- Arielle walks in to talk about tomorrow's plan.
- Go to bed for a bit.
- When you wake up you can walk out.
- You can see Arielle and the other battlemage preparing to shadow you.
- Just walk down the road to the little marker.
- Caminalda will ambush you at that point.
- If you are taking a lot of damage you can run away and let Arielle handle her. The two battlemages are more than capable.
- Note: If an Imperial Legion soldier sees it then he might attack the two battlemages. There isn't anything you can besides reload and wait to run off some more time and let the patrol get further away. I don't believe their deaths really mean anything after the quest is over though.
- Loot Caminalda's body and get the key to her room.
- She should have a chest full of gold from her past robberies.
- Once you are done, head back to the Mages Guild in Anvil and report back to Carahil.
- She'll send the recommendation.
Bravil Recommendation
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Mage's Guild: Bravil Recommendation Quest (Time: 7:02)
- Head into the Bravil Mages Guild and talk to Kud-Ei.
- She'll probably offer a recommendation before you can even ask for it.
- She feels sorry for one of her shy mages, Ardaline.
- It turns out that Varon Vamori stole her Mages Staff and she's afraid that she'll be humiliated if the Academy finds out.
- Kud-Ei gives you Beguile scroll to help with the quest.
- You can probably find him in the guild hall if you're lucky.
- Otherwise just follow the arrow and track him down.
- Use the Beguile scroll to charm him enough to get some answers.
- Note:If you rank well in the Thieves Guild he might be friends with you already.
- Learn that he's actually just in love with her but he lost his temper after all his failed attempts to gain her affection.
- He stole her staff and sold it to a friend called Soris Arenim in the Imperial City.
- Report back to Kud-Ei.
- She'll give you some more Beguile scrolls and ask you to retrieve it.
- You can find Soris Arenim's house in the Talos Plaza District.
- The legal way to do this is to use a Beguile scroll to charm him enough to get him to sell you the Mages Staff for 200 gold.
- You'll need a disposition above 80 for this to work.
- He may also just tell you where its stored making it much easier to steal.
- Tip: Just search his house for it at night. It's in a drawer in the basement.
- Take it back to Kud-Ei to secure a recommendation.
Bruma Recommendation
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Mage's Guild: Bruma Recommendation Quest (Time: 4:10)
- Find the Bruma Mages Guild in the upper level of the city.
- Talk to Jeanne Frasoric inside.
- She'll give you a recommendation if you help her find a lost member.
- By lost, she means her mage J'skar is invisible and she can't find him.
- Talking to the other guild members will point you towards Volanaro.
- He has a bit more to say.
- It turns out that they can't stand Jeanne and that this was just one of many pranks.
- If you ask about the prank he'll tell you that he'll make J'skar reappear if you steal Jeanne's manual of spellcraft from her desk.
- Note: J'skar is actually running around the Guild invisible. If you have a Dispel spell then you can reveal him yourself to end the quest early.
- Follow the arrow up the stairs and into her room on the left side.
- It's an easy lock so just use the spell he gave you or pick it.
- Take the book and give it to Volanaro.
- Note: Volanaro wasn't lying when he said she was under-qualified for the job. The manual reads like a spellbook for students, not a guide for a master.
- Just wait until 10 PM and he'll use a spell to make J'skar reappear.
- Talk to Jeanne to complete the quest and secure your recommendation.
Cheydinhal Recommendation
- Head to the Guild building in Cheydinhal.
- Look for the quest arrow on your map or just look for the building with the blue banners on the right side of town.
- Head inside and search for Falcar.
- You can't break into his bedroom so you may have to wait for him to come out.
- He'll ask you to retrieve a ring that the last associate in the guild dropped down the well.
- Deetsan has the well key.
- If you talk to her she'll ask you to wait until Falcar isn't within earshot.
- You may have to wait until night and wake her up.
- She'll hand you the well key and give you a spell that grants underwater breathing and a bit of feather.
- Before you go down the well, free up space in your inventory.
- The ring weighs 150 pounds.
- Just drop a bunch of your equipment on the ground outside the well.
- If you can, cast a few feather spells too.
- I don't belive anyone will take your things.
- Save just in case though.
- Jump down into the well and spot Vidkun's body off to the side.
- Swim over to him and pull the ring off his body.
- Swim out of the well and find Deetsan.
- It turns out that she confronted Falcar about his sadistic tactics.
- Just drop the ring.
- The bad news is that Falcar stormed out of the Guild without writing your recommendation.
- She'll give you the key to his room and tell you to search his desk for it.
- Use the key to enter his room in the basement and break into the locked desk.
- Grab the black soul gems and take them up to Deetsan.
- She gasps and says that she'll write a recommendation in a special report to the Guild.
- This will be good enough.
- Note: You really aren't supposed to know just what black soul gems are for at this point. You'll eventually find out that they're the only way to trap a human soul. That means that little Falcar was into Necromancy against Guild policy.
Chorrol Recommendation
- This quest will be a bit complicated.
- Go into the building and talk to Teekeeus.
- He'll want you to find out why Earana is in town spreading lies about him.
- She's not that hard to find. Just follow the quest marker.
- She's usually wandering around the outside of the Guild.
- Ask her why she's in Chorrol and accept her quest to find the special book.
- Go back to Teekeeus and ask about the Fingers of the Mountain.
- Trek up the mountain and make the long hard trip to Cloud Top.
- Search the charred body by the shrine for the book.
- Travel back to Chorrol.
- You now have a decision to make.
- You have to give the book to Teekeeus if you want to be in the Guild.
- Giving it to Earana earns you a cool spell though.
- The easiest way is to give it to both of them.
- Note: The spell is leveled and effectively worthless to high level thieves and warriors. You can probably just skip this part and give it to Teekeeus.
Teekeeus First
- If you give it to Teekeeus, you can tell Earana and she'll start the second part of the quest.
- Steal it back from Teekeeus and give it to her.
- Just head to the top level of the Mages Guild and follow the arrow to the room in the south east corner.
- Break into the chest and give it to Earana.
- Wait 24 hours and then talk to her again.
- She'll tell you the translation.
Earana First
- Give the book to Earana first.
- Go ahead and tell Teekeeus what you did.
- Wait 24 hours and talk to her again for the translation.
- Steal it from her room in The Grey Mare.
- Just follow the arrows up into the inn area and steal it from her chest.
- Give it to Teekeeus to secure a recommendation.
Fingers of the Mountain
- You now just have to fulfill the translation.
- Head back to Cloud Top.
- Just cast any shock damage spell onto the pillar while you have a Welkynd stone in your inventory.
- Tip: You can get one of these from just about any Ayleid ruin. When you clear the next one out, you should store the extras for later use in quests.
- Learn from the charred body though.
- If you don't have a lot of health you'll probably need a resist shock spell or potion.
- The pillar will give a good kickback to prove you're worthy.
- From this you'll receive a good lighting spell called Fingers of the Mountain.
Leyawiin Recommendation
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Mage's Guild: Leyawiin Recommendation Quest (Time: 9:43)
- This is just like the others.
- Head into Leyawiin and find the Mages Guild.
- Talk to Dagail and realize that she really isn't in any shape to write a recommendation.
- Follow the marker and look for Agata.
- Listen to her tale about Dagail and her lost Seer's Stone.
- You can ask the various guild members for help, but you really just have to talk to Kalthar.
- Go back to Agata and then to Dagail.
- Dagail tells you about Fort Blueblood.
- You can find this in the wilderness to the southeast of Leyawiin.
- Travel to the fortress and start your search.
- Its a linear journey.
- Just keep moving forward until you enter the Fort Blueblood Halls.
- Marauders are the primary enemy.
- They're just a different version of bandit. They shouldn't pose much of a threat.
- The second room in this place will have a bridge across a little pond.
- You will have to fight some form of guardian for a key to the next area.
- This will usually just be a Marauder Warlord.
- Take the key and enter the area with a bunch of coffins in a line.
- A few higher level monsters may be waiting, so don't let your guard down.
- Your quest marker should point you right towards Manduin's Amulet.
- This is what you need to give Dagail.
- After you grab the amulet you should try to leave.
- Kalthar will interrupt you though.
- Kill Kalthar and take a key off his body to open the way out.
- Head back to the Mages Guild and give it to Dagail.
- This will secure your recommendation.
Skingrad Recommendation
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Mage's Guild: Skingrad Recommendation (Time: 9:32)
- Head to the Mages Guild in Skingrad and talk to Adrienne Berene.
- She'll want you to find Erthor in order to secure a recommendation.
- Ask around the Guild to find out that he went to Bleak Flats Cave for some research.
- Talk to Druja to get the actual location marked on your map.
- Report back to Adrienne and she'll tell you to go get him.
- The caves are located to the north of Skingrad.
- Travel to the caves and kill the zombies inside.
- There shouldn't be more than ten.
- You'll have to kill each one before Erthor will leave with you.
- Once they're dead, just talk to him and lead him out of the cave.
- Fast travel back and talk to Adrienne.
- You can also wait for Erthor to confirm his arrival.
- It doesn't really matter.
- Once he's back your recommendation is secure.
A Mage's Staff
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Mage's Guild: A Mage's Staff Quest (Time: 8:23)
- Fulfill all the recommendation quests to start this one.
- Head to the Arcane University in the Imperial City.
- Talk to Raminus Polus.
- He'll be in the University lobby during the day.
- Ask about your recommendations to confirm that you are an official member of the guild.
- You'll get a new robe to mark the occasion.
- Your first mission is supposed to be an easy one.
- You have to get special wood for your personal staff.
- He'll mark Wellspring Cave on your map.
- It's just a short trip from Imperial City.
- Enter the cave and notice that things aren't quick right.
- The dead mage Zahrasha at your feet should have clued you in.
- You'll be approached by a necromancer and will end up in a fight.
- Tip: Necromancers are easy to fight. Just charge them and slash away. They are very weak for the most part. Only the occasional necromancer knows strong magic. They will usually just summon an undead creature to attack you.
- Tip: Do not attack their summons. Just go around and kill the conjurer. It'll save your health.
- Kill this necromancer.
- Search Zahrasha's body to get a key to Wellspring Cave. You'll need it later.
- Move along the path to find another two necromancers you'll have to kill.
- The path is pretty short.
- Just keep moving until you get to a locked door that takes you out of the cave and onto a little island.
- The other dead mage is here.
- Noveni Othran runs up to talk to you.
- After some vague threats, fight and kill the few remaining necromancers.
- Loot the bodies and open the big stone chest surrounded by the purple torches.
- Open it up to receive an unfinished staff.
- Walk back to Raminus Polus to tell him what has happened.
- Go see Delmar in the Chironasium to finish the staff.
- Follow the arrow and talk to him.
- You'll be allowed to make a leveled staff that follows a role of your choice.
- You can make it for Destruction, Illusion, or Mysticism.
- It honestly doesn't matter what course you take.
- I'll just point out that there are a lot of Destruction staffs in the game. You may want to take advantage of the situation and get something exotic now.
- Wait for 24 and talk to him again.
- The staff itself will spawn in a cupboard in the Chironasium.
- Follow the arrow and claim your reward.
- Walk back to Raminus to complete the quest and receive an advancement.
Ulterior Motives
- Your next mission is to ask Janus Hassildor if he has a certain book for the Mages Guild.
- If you didn't know before, he is the vampire Count of Skingrad.
- Travel to Skingrad and head into the castle.
- Hassildor doesn't hold a public audience.
- Speak to his assistant, Mercator Hosidus.
- Find him wandering around the main lobby.
- Talking to him won't do much.
- He'll ask for you to come back in a day to see if things have changed.
- Wait 24 hours and try to talk to him again.
- He'll offer a special meeting outside the Curse Mine at 2 in the morning.
- Go ahead and run gleefully into this obvious ambush.
- Travel to the quest marker outside the Cursed Mine.
- It isn't too far from Castle Skingrad.
- Mercator shows up with two necromancers.
- He'll attack you.
- None of them should be too tough.
- Just slash away and kill them.
- Tip: Before watchful in the fight though. Janus Hassildor will show up and help you about halfway through the fight. You might slash him accidentally and start another fight. If that happens make sure you yield. He should accept.
- Once they're dead, Hassildor will talk to you.
- It seems you were just bait for a spying operation.
- Head back to Raminus with your information about Hassildor's allegiance.
- Receive an advancement for your help.
- The reward is the Spelldrinker Amulet. It's a pretty useful charm that absorbs magicka from spells, but I find it better to just not get hit in the first place.
Vahtacen's Secret
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Mage's Guild: Vahtacen's Secret Quest (Time: 8:02)
- This one requires a bit of intellect, but you'll get a break from the necromancers.
- Raminus wants you to help with a stalled research project.
- Talk to Irlav Jarol first.
- He's usually in the lobby or the Council Chambers above it.
- He's in an all white robe, so he should be easy to spot.
- Talking to him will net you the location of an Ayleid ruin called Vahtacen.
- Travel to the ruins. You'll find them a bit south of Cheydinhal.
- Walk down and find Skaleel walking around.
- She'll tell you that they're stumped about some type of pillar in the room.
- She doesn't care enough to keep risking Mages on it, but Denel does.
- Walk down the steps and use your key to get to the area with Denel.
- Head into the area with the pillar and activate all four inscriptions on the walls surrounding the pillar.
- Go back and talk to Denel to find out what they mean. He needs a book though.
- Ask Skaleel to loan him a book.
- Go back to the start and get it from her.
- Denel can now translate them accurately.
- It amounts to a reference to fire, frost, magicka damage, and magicka strong.
- You will need to follow the inscriptions' instructions in a clockwise order.
- Save before you start.
- If you don't have these spells you can help yourself to the relevant scrolls in the chest behind Denel.
- Now just cast the spells onto the pillar.
- The correct order is fire damage, frost damage, damage magicka, and fortify magicka.
- Note: It has to be damage magicka. Drain magicka will not work. ALso remember that the scroll is for a touch attack, so get up close and personal.
- If you don't miss, it will reveal a staircase.
- Denel and Skaleel will both tell you to go in and claim the honor for yourself.
- Face some leveled ghosts.
- They will usually be some form of wraith.
- Look out because there is a big trapped area ahead with a trapped center panel.
- Use diagonal jumps to avoid setting it off.
- Move through and find the pressure plate on the floor.
- When you step on it, the two walls to the side will open and you'll be attacked by two wraiths.
- After they're dead you can move into the next big room.
- The center plate is trapped here as well (note the blood stains).
- Avoid it and move on.
- Run a gauntlet of blades before the end.
- Just stop and start to dodge the blades.
- Follow the path until you get to the final room.
- Go up the stairs on the left side and press the button.
- This will open a staircase.
- Note: You need to decide your course of action about now. Opening the staircase will activate 4 leveled undead. Taking the helm at the top will spawn a higher level undead. At higher levels they will be able to summon their own undead. This can mean you'll be in an 10-on-1 battle. If you are not good at combat you may want to run. If so just grab the helmet and run back the way you came. The traps will break them up enough and they won't follow you for long.
- As you go up the stairs about 4 leveled undead will spawn. These can be skeleton champions or liches at a high level.
- Kill them using your usual undead killing techniques.
- Grab the Ancient Elven Helm at the top.
- This will spawn a higher level summoner character at the top of the stairs on the far side of the room.
- You now have a few options.
- Kill the character (usually a lich) and follow that backway out until it links up to the beginning.
- Run back the way you came.
- Or pick the lock on the door to the northeast and follow it to a room with a lot of loot.
- The wall here will give out and open a hole to the main entrance.
- Walk back to Irlav Jarol and give him the helm.
- He'll thank you.
- Talk to Raminus to get a new rank and new robes.
Necromancer's Moon
- Well, it's time to learn more about the necromancers.
- Raminus wants you to learn about black soul gems.
- Talk to Tar-Meena in The Mystic Archives and ask her about black soul gems.
- She'll tell you to track down a book.
- Don't worry. It's just on the table by the door.
- Check the books in the display case while you're here. They're pretty nice.
- Talk to her again after you read the book to confirm your information.
- Report back to Raminus.
- Raminus wants to track down what the "Shade of the Revenant."
- Talk to Bothiel.
- Bothiel won't be able to tell you anything, but she can give you a note that Falcar dropped before he left.
- Show the note to Raminus and he'll recognize one of the locations.
- You will now have the Dark Fissure marked on your map.
- Head to the cave.
- It is east of Imperial City.
- Note: There are a few of these altars in the game located at the locations on the note. At midnight once a week a light will shine down on the altar and allow the making of black soul gems. Put a grand soul gem in one and cast soul trap while the light is shining.
- You should see the altar as you approach.
- You can hide and wait until midnight for a week until a necromancer comes out and makes one at the shrine.
- The easy way is to charge into the cave and kill the Anchorite at the front.
- Searching his body to find a note that explains the process.
- Take the note to Raminus Polus to complete the quest.
- Tip: While you're here you may want to steal or make a black soul gem for a future Daedra quest.
- You'll receive an advancement for your work.
Liberation or Apprehension?
- Your future missions will come from Hannibal Traven.
- He is usually in the council chambers above the lobby or in his room above the council chambers.
- You need to rescue an informant called Mucianus Alias from the necromancers.
- He's worried because some battlemages believe he turned rouge.
- He was staying in Nenyond Twyll.
- It is located to the south of Imperial City.
- Travel there and enter the Ayleid ruins.
- Meet the last surviving battlemage at the front.
- He'll lead the way...and die to a trap.
- Avoid the trap and start carving your way through the ruins.
- You'll have to deal with leveled undead and necromancers throughout.
- Nothing should be too new or challenging.
- Tip: Make sure you kept your weapons in good repair. Zombies at higher levels really wear them out.
- Just follow the path and kill the clusters of necromancers in your way.
- Go through the door that leads to the next area, Nenyond Twyll Riellesel.
- Mariette Rielle will be waiting for you.
- They've already discovered and punished Alias.
- Save as soon as you can.
- Kill her and start clearing out the necromancers in the room past her.
- Tip: Be very careful. I meet the most powerful mage I've seen in the game here. For some reason a no-name necromancer was able to use some spell that took away 1/4 of my high level tank warrior's health. I'm not sure if it was random bad luck or not. Be very careful for a strong mage around this area.
- The area is basically two shores connected by a stone bridge.
- There are defensive mage spires around the bridge that will use a frost spell if you get close to the edge.
- You can dodge their spells or swim to avoid the damage.
- 5 necromancers defend the area.
- If you have trouble just draw them to the door area a few at a time.
- Once the area is clear you just have to heal and press a button at the end.
- You'll find Alias as a worm thrall in this room.
- He's just a tough zombie.
- If you survived all the necromancers, you'll be able to kill him.
- End his suffering to receive the update.
- Before you leave, jump into the water and press the underwater button by the stairs.
- There is one on each side.
- This will lift the cages covering the two Varla Stones.
- These are valuable and cool to look at in your home.
- Report the grim news back to Traven to finish the mission.
- Talk to Raminus to get your next advancement.
Information at a Price
- This is a fun little quest in my opinion.
- You need to get some information from Count Hassildor.
- Travel to Skingrad Castle and find his new assistant Hal-Liurz in the lobby.
- Hal-Liurz will fetch the Count for you.
- Just use the wait command to wait an hour or two if you are impatient.
- He'll talk to you and demand a favor for the information.
- He wants a vampire situation taken care of.
- There is a group of vampires holed up in Bloodcrust Cavern.
- This made a group of vampire hunters come to Skingrad to search for vampires in general.
- He's afraid they'll discover his secret.
- You need to take care of the vampires and the vampire hunters.
- There are a few ways to do this, but only one really good one.
- I'll deal with the bad ones now.
- You can just use your assassin skills to somehow murder the three hunters while they're in town. Talk to Eridor to learn about them.
- You will then have to kill the vampires in the cave.
- You can also kill the vampires in cave and show the dust to him.
- The hunters will accept the news and leave town. It has to be dust from the cave. Other vampire dust won't work.
- Alright, here's how you should do it.
- Make it your active quest and follow the marker to Eridor.
- He's usually wandering the streets or drinking at the Two Sisters Lodge.
- Talk to him and tell him that the vampires are in Bloodcrust Cavern.
- Travel to the cavern.
- You will probably see the hunters go in.
- Wait for ten hours.
- The hunters are usually no match for all the vampires. The three men die quickly.
- In my game they somehow killed all of the vampires except for one using chameleon in a dead end branch.
- After your wait just go into the cave. Either hunt down the vampires or collect all the nice loot they left behind.
- If they kill all the vampires they will leave town of their own accord.
- Note: Eridor has to survive for this to work. If they lose their leader then they may not leave. You'll have to kill them yourself. It is rare for him to die and his weaker companions to survive though. Just hack them down in the countryside and you'll be fine.
- If they die just clear the cave yourself to complete the quest.
- It is just a standard two branch cave with no real surprises.
- Once it is done go back to the castle and play the waiting game while Hal-Liurz brings the Count down.
- He'll congratulate you and then say that Mannimarco is back.
- Travel back to Traven and give him the news.
- There isn't anything special in reward for this quest.
- Note: If you want the best conjuration spell in the game, you need to buy the Summon Dremora Lord spell from Volanaro now.
A Plot Revealed
- Wait a few days for this quest to become available.
- Talk to Traven and he'll ask that you check up on Jeanne at the Bruma Mages Guild.
- It seems that they've lost contact with them.
- Get your ghost killing gear and head out.
- Travel to the Guild Hall and you'll notice that things are a little different.
- Walk around the downed bookcases and fire.
- There will be leveled undead or ghosts here.
- I always found wraiths.
- Carve your way through them.
- You will have to take the long way to Jeanne's room.
- Head to the right and go down the stairs into the Living Quarters.
- Be very careful here.
- There are usually a lot of wraiths.
- Don't be afraid to retreat. Only about half of them will follow at a time.
- Try and get into a room and let the bottleneck sort them out.
- Things are pretty ominous now if you can't tell from your dead friends.
- Walk through the hall and head out the exit at the end.
- Kill the last wraiths here and walk up the stairs to Jeanne's room.
- A necromancer named Camilla will probably stop you before you get to the door.
- Talk for a minute and then kill her.
- If you made it this far you'll be fine.
- She's no different than a normal necromancer.
- Once she's dead J'Skar appears.
- He'll tell you that Mannimarco himself came out and destroyed the Guild.
- After this he'll run back to the University.
- You can follow him if you want, but he's fast and strong enough to handle any threats on the road.
- Walk out and tell Traven what happened.
- Talk to Raminus to get an advancement and a powerful spell called Wizard's Fury.
The Bloodworm Helm
- Wait for about 3 days until this quest is available from Traven.
- He'll tell you that Jarol and Caranya ran off with valuable artifacts.
- You can do this quest or The Necromancer's Amulet interchangeably. I just put this in this order to show how I did it. There isn't any real advantage from either.
- Travel to Fort Teleman.
- Head inside and realize that the necromancers have attacked.
- Kill off necromancer rear guard members and work through the fort.
- You need to get to the door leading to the Order of the Black Rose.
- It should just be at the end of a long pathway linking two big rooms.
- Things are worse than they seem.
- Daedra attacked first.
- There is now a battle going on between Daedra monsters and the invading necromancers.
- Kill the few enemy at the start and save your game.
- Just wait for about a minute or so.
- Let them kill each other off as much as possible.
- Now just follow the tunnel and kill the survivors.
- You'll come to a big room with a broken wall.
- This leads to the last tunnel.
- If you get lost just check the map to find the arrow.
- The end of this last tunnel takes you to a pit that has one strong Daedra standing over Irlav's body.
- Kill the monster and search Irlav's body for the Bloodworm Helm.
- You should probably just finish the other quest before you go back to Traven.
The Necromancer's Amulet
- You'll need to travel to Fort Ontus.
- Tip: Save in case you get stuck in an area after a accidental fall.
- It's in the middle of nowhere to the north of Kvatch.
- You will see a lot of loyal mages around.
- Note: They are not loyal. They are necromancers in disguise.
- Tip: Since they are really necromancers try and stealthily clear a path. They are divided well when you enter.
- If you see a mage by themselves, save and do a sneak attack to kill them quickly. You won't be able to sneak attack them later.
- Follow the path.
- There are a few ways into the Understreets to see Caranya. #If you kill the mages you can get a key that opens a panel above her area.
- You can then just drop down and see her.
- The proper way is to just go across the bridge and then turn left.
- Go through the door.
- Take a left and then turn to the south.
- Use the lever and go through the open gate to find Caranya.
- She's a necromancer who thought you had turned with her.
- Once you ask for the amulet she'll attack.
- Her magic is worthless at close range.
- Slash her a few times and then loot her body.
- You should just backtrack out of the cave.
- There is another route through the other door in Caranya's chamber, but that generally has more necromancers and lackluster loot.
- The mages you passed have changed their uniform and will now attack on sight.
- Have fun.
- Take the Bloodworm Helm and the Necromancer's Amulet back to Traven for safekeeping.
- Talk to Raminus Polus to get another advancement.
Ambush
- Talk to Traven to receive this next mission.
- They are planning a massive raid against Falcar at Silorn so they can get the special black soul gem the necromancers made.
- Silorn is to the southwest of Skingrad.
- Tip: Grab some type of paralyzing spell or poison. Trust me.
- Travel there and talk to the three battlemages standing around.
- Talking to Thalfin will reveal their difficulties with the door.
- Their plan is to wait and ambush Falcar when he leaves.
- Talk to them again to get them in position.
- Thalfin is better with an axe so put her up close.
- Merete is a strong magic user and should be put at a distance.
- Iver is a healer and needs to be close to be effective.
- Save now!
- Here is how it will work.
- Once they are in position you just have to slip behind a pillar and wait for Falcar and his escorts to approach.
- One of them will lead the attack if you don't.
- Explanation: You need to paralyze Falcar while he is outside. If you don't kill him here he will run back inside the ruins. You will now have to clear out three levels of necromancers to get to him. Just kill him outside and take the Colossal Black Soul gem to end this part of the quest.
- Tip: A good thief can also sneak behind them and pickpocket it off of Falcar. That will end the quest.
- When the group approaches try and slash Falcar with a paralysis poison or use a spell.
- If he runs away chase after him.
- If you can't catch him switch to light armor.
- The one way to catch him is at the entrance.
- He will usually run down the stairs the correct way while you can just drop down to the door.
- Chase him and jump down by the door.
- Paralyze him and slash him a few times before he goes inside.
- If you fail, try again. You really don't want to do the ruins.
- Once you have the gem head back to Traven.
Confront the King
- Talk to Traven to start the final quest.
- Traven will tell you to face Mannimarco and avenge the fallen mages.
- He will then trap his own soul into the Colossal Black Soul Gem you just retrieved.
- Loot his body for a good staff and a Filled Colossal Black Soul Gem.
- This will protect you from Mannimarco's Enthrall spell.
- Travel to Echo Cave. It is to the northwest of Bruma.
- A guard outside the cave stops you and says that you'll get the key over his dead body.
- Oblige his request and take the key.
- Open the door and start fighting through Echo Cave.
- It's basically one big path for the first part.
- Just slash your way through the leveled enemies. You should know how to deal with them by now.
- Make it to some big wooden doors that lead to the Echo Cave Passages.
- Keep following the path through three big rooms.
- Walk right next to a marked door leading to the Necromancer's Chamber.
- Go through it and leave the rest untouched.
- Kill a special necromancer adept who is a bit tougher up ahead.
- Once he's dead, you should heal and save.
- Tip: If you have anything that reflects or absorbs magic, put it on now.
- Walk across the dirt bridge to face the rather...disappointing Mannimarco.
- He'll paralyze you and have a little rant.
- You'll be freed at the end.
- He'll try to cast enthrall on you twice and then give up.
- This fight can be really easy or really hard.
- Some people may not be able to dish out the damage. Others , like me, will find it ridiculously easy. He'll die with a few hits from a good sword.
- Tip: If you just can't beat him you can trick him into drowning himself. Just take a potion of the sea and swim for a bit.
- Loot his body for a cool robe and the Staff of Worms.
- This staff will let you reanimate a target for 30 seconds.
- You can even dishonor Mannimarco by reviving him so you can kill him again.
- Loot all the chests in the area and leave.
- The fastest way out is for you to just backtrack a room.
- Take a guarded ladder to the south and leave the room.
- It will take you back to the starting area.
- Leave the cave and walk back to the University.
- Raminus Polus should be waiting for you.
- You are now the Arch-Mage.
Alchemy Acquisition/Guild End
- This is effectively your reward for finishing the quest line.
- Talk to Julienne Fanis to understand what Raminus alluded to.
- There is a special guildmaster chest in your room at the top of the tower.
- Put any ingredient (besides Nirnroot) into the chest and they'll multiply by about 10 in 24 hours.
- You only have a week to collect them before the chest purges everything.
- Do not try it with normal items since they will just be purged.
- You can also take Mage Apprentices with you. Just grab any two from the University lawn.
Joining the Thieves Guild
- You have to find out about the Thieves Guild first.
- The easiest way is to look at one of the wanted posted throughout the Imperial City.
- You can then ask one of the beggars about the Gray Fox to learn about the Guild.
- If you are caught and jailed for stealing at any point you should receive a note from the Gray Fox explaining the Guild's existence.
- Either way you just have to go to the poor district in the Waterfront Area and find Armand Christophe at midnight behind one of the buildings. He'll be holding a torch.
- Ask about the Gray Fox and then ask to join the Guild.
May the Best Thief Win
- You may have noticed two other thieves with you.
- You'll have to beat them to the target.
- This will be a true race against Methredhel.
- Amusei won't even be a factor.
- Make sure you have a few lockpicks. Armand will sell them to you if you don't.
- Then you have to talk to a beggar quickly.
- One usually sleeps by the meeting point.
- Ask them where to find Amantius Allectus' house.
- You can take two routes.
- It's possible to go through the sewers and come up into his basement but you'll really have to run.
- Just outrun Methredhel to his house and quickly pick the lock on the desk by the door.
- The diary is inside.
- Take it back to Armand the next night to win the challenge.
- Note: The easier way is actually to just wait and try the alternative.
If You Fail Again
- There is a third alternative.
- If you fail both times he'll tell you to get a sword from Rohssan.
- Get a beggar to reveal that she runs the shop in the market district called "A Fighting Chance."
- Wait until its dark and then pick the door to her shop.
- Steal anything you want and then pick the lock upstairs.
- Sneak through her bedroom to steal her special sword from the chest.
- Take it back to Armand.
- You're now a member
- Note: Progression in the thieves guild is based off of how much you steal and then fence.
- Your first fence is Ongar in Bruma. He'll usually be at the local bar or his home. He'll have a compass marker if you select "Independent Thievery" as your quest.
- The easiest way is to just steal from a home that you raid in a mission. If you kill the owner as part of a mission there isn't anyone to report you. Castles are also good places to rob.
Untaxing the Poor
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Untaxing the Poor & Elven Maiden Quests (Time: 7:09)
- Talk to Armand after you've fenced 50 gold worth.
- You've been asked to steal the tax records from Hieronymus Lex.
- Talk to the beggars to learn that he has his own office in the South Watch Tower.
- There are doors to it through the Temple district and through the Arboretum.
- There isn't a set way to rob it since there isn't a perfect time when the guards aren't eating in the bottom level.
- If you do it at night they'll all probably be asleep, but there are several times in the day when the sleeping quarters are just empty.
- Head into the lobby and use the wait option to pass one hour segments until its clear.
- Remember to remove any of your heavy armor.
- When no one's looking use your stealth to climb up the ladder to the first barracks.
- If you want you can try and steal some legion armor too.
- Go up the ladder that's right next to the one you just came up.
- Use stealth again to pick the lock and break into Hieronymus Lex's office.
- Note: If you are ever stopped you will just have to leave or the guards will arrest you for trespassing. Wait a few minutes to let things settle down.
- Once in his office, pick the lock on his desk to steal the records and the 53 gold.
- Give the records back to Armand to finish the mission and receive an advancement.
The Elven Maiden
- Once you fence 100 gold worth of items you can get this new mission from Armand.
- He will tell you to steal the bust made of the Countess of Cheydinhal.
- Travel to the city and ask a few beggars about it.
- The bust is in the Chapel's undercroft by her tomb.
- Go into the Chapel basement and start sneaking.
- The undercroft is shaped like a cross.
- The bust will be in the left wing.
- Wait until the guard walks into the right wing and quickly sneak into the left wing and steal the bust.
- Hide in the corner of the wing to not be spotted by the guard.
- Once she turns around you can head out the door.
- Things aren't good in the waterfront though.
- Hieronymus Lex has raided the Waterfront to arrest Armand.
- Wait around for a few minutes to have Methredhel come and find you.
- She will explain that the whole mission was done to draw out an informant.
- Your job is to frame them for the theft.
- Wait until the guards aren't looking and break into Myvryna Arano's house and pick the lock on the cabinet.
- The bust is stored automatically.
- Head outside and bribe Hieronymus until his disposition is about 70.
- He will then entertain your accusation and search her house.
- Go ahead inside to confirm that she's arrested for it and watch a satisfying scene.
- Wait until midnight and meet Armand in the usual place for the reward and a promotion.
- You'll now have access to a new fence in Leyawiin.
- He's only good for more expensive loot.
Ahdarji's Heirloom
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Ahdarji's Heirloom Quest (Time: 9:28)
- You will now receive your special missions from S'Krivva in Bravil.
- Note: Do not ever break into her home. Wait until morning and visit her.
- You're asked to help a widow retrieve her ring from a freelance thief.
- Head to Leyawiin and get information about it from the beggars.
- Ahdarji moves around a lot so just follow the marker and ask her about the ring.
- It turns out that your old friend Amusei stole her ring.
- If you ask the beggars again you'll find out that Amusei was jailed for stealing.
- Head into the dungeon below the castle and bribe the jailor to visit him.
- It turns out that the Countess doesn't have particularly progressive policies for Argonians.
- Slip Amusei a lockpick to get the information you want.
- The ring isn't an heirloom after all.
- Ahdarji stole it from the Countess in the first place.
- Tip: Head back to Ahdarji and let her know that you're onto her. She'll double the reward for its return. She depended on it for her spying operations so she really wants it.
- Ask the beggars and they'll tell you all about Hlidara Mothril.
- Note: If the Countess and Hlidara are gone just wait for a few days. They both leave the castle for royal business in the middle of the month.
- Find Hlidara and bribe her until you learn about the castle's secrets and the recovered ring.
- You should note that the only time you'll be able to steal it is when the Countess takes it off to sleep.
- It is also noteworthy that there is a secret passageway to the upper hall.
- Wait until its about 11 PM or midnight and head down to the basement.
- There will be an empty barrel with a lever in it by the back wall.
- Pull the level and slip through the open hole to take a path into the torture room.
- If you have room steal the silver warhammer. It's decent loot.
- Exit the room through the other hallway and go through the door to the Lords' Manor Private Quarters.
- Note: There is usually a guard patrolling the hallway. Quicksave and wait if you have to.
- Then just walk left while hugging the wall.
- Pick the lock and break into their bedroom.
- Sneak along to the other side of the bed so you can break into the jewelry box.
- Steal the book and the alchemy equipment on the desk to make it worth your while.
- Head out through the secret entrance again.
- Note: If you are caught on the way out, just pay the fine. The game isn't able to take quest items from your inventory. This means that the guards won't take your ring. The evidence chest in the Leyawiin dungeon is also incredibly easy to steal from. It's actually in a separate area behind the jailor.
- Deliver the ring to Adharji.
- Speak to S'Krivva to finish the quest and receive a new rank.
Misdirection
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Thieve's Guild: Misdirection Quest (Time: 3:51)
- You will need 300 gold of fenced items for this one.
- Talk to S'krivva in Bravil to receive your next mission.
- It turns out that Hieronymus Lex is up to his old tricks again.
- He's completely locked down the Waterfront.
- You need to talk to a beggar and ask for Methredhel's location.
- She's taken refuge in Dynari Amnis' house.
- Travel to the Talos Plaza District to find the house and talk to Methredhel about the mission.
- The plan is to pull off several big heists across Imperial City to show how many guards were pulled off duty.
- Your mission is to steal Hrormir's staff from the Arcane University.
- Note: This will be easier if you are higher up in the Mage's Guild as you will already be allowed to access all the necessary areas of the academy.
- Note: This will be very easy if you've completed the Mage's Guild quests as you will be stealing from yourself.
- Travel to the academy and enter the lobby.
- Wait until past 1 AM to strike.
- Raminus Polus should be gone and the lobby will be clear.
- Use the portal at the arrow points to travel up a level to the council room.
- There is a seemingly random chance that Irlav Jarol will be here.
- He won't do anything though.
- Jarol will just get mad and tell you to leave.
- He doesn't care about the direction though.
- Just move past him quickly and go up to the Arch-Mage's Chamber.
- He should be asleep by now.
- Grab the staff off of his dresser and sneak up to the other marked nightstand to the left of his bed.
- Activate it to slip the note through a crack.
- Sneak out and tell Methredhel of your success.
- Go to the Waterfront and watch Hieronymus Lex for progress on the overall mission.
- As soon as you get there a Dremora will be conjured up to deliver a note from Raminus Polus.
- Lex will read it and throw it on the ground.
- Walk up to him and pick up the note to discover that the Mage's Guild has demanded that all guards be returned to their post in light of the recent theft.
- Head back to Methredhel to report the note.
- She'll congratulate you and ask for one last favor.
- Return the staff as an act of goodwill between the guilds.
- You will just have to sneak into a retired member's house though.
- Ontus Vanin's also lives in the Talos Plaza District.
- Just wait until night and sneak up the stairs into his bedroom.
- Vanin should be asleep.
- Just sneak past and put Hrormir's staff into the marked chest.
- You will receive a message that the staff has been left for him.
- Head back to S'krivva to report your success.
- You will have Luciana Galena opened as a new fence in Bravil, not that this will really mean anything. Ongar is still more convenient.
- You will get 300 gold as well.
Lost Histories
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Thieves' Guild: Lost Histories Quest (Time: 9:34)
- You will need 400 gold in fenced items to start this one.
- Talk to S'krivva to get the quest.
- You need to check up on another thief for this one.
- They want a book called "The Lost Histories of Tamriel."
- They sent Theranis after it but he's missing.
- Travel to Skingrad and talk to the beggars to learn about Theranis.
- It seems that he was arrested for bragging about his excellent heist while the guard captain was listening.
- So it's time to pull off a rescue.
- Follow the arrow to the dungeon in the Castle.
- You will now meet one of the only incorruptible guards in the game.
- He'll refuse your bribe to see Theranis.
- You now have a few options.
- You can just break into the jail.
- You can get arrested.
- Or you can get a job.
- The best way is probably to just get a job.
- Ask the jailor about it.
- The Count's assistant is looking for a slop drudge for the prisoners.
- You can find him in the castle hall except for his walks in the city between 9 AM and noon.
- Tell him you'll be his slop drudge.
- Walk back to the jailor and tell him that you need to pass out the slop.
- He'll open the door and let you in.
- Theranis isn't here though.
- The one left is Larthjar the Laggard.
- I will tell you to go ahead and wait until it's about 11 PM to move on.
- Talk to Larthjar and offer to free him.
- He'll then explain that Theranis and an Argonian were dragged away by "The Pale Lady".
- The Argonian fought and left a blood trail.
- Follow the blood trail and you'll see that it ends at the end of the hall.
- Pull the conspicuous looking silver candlestick on the wall to open a secret passageway.
- Follow the tunnel until you reach a secret door to the Castle.
- Save here just in case.
- The occasional guard walks through here.
- Just follow the arrow and go into the wine cellar to your right.
- Feel free to steal all the valuable wine down here.
- Go over to the right side and activate a candlestick by the right barrel.
- This open a door in the middle barrel.
- Go down the short tunnel until you see the Pale Lady.
- She is a vampire and will attack you on sight. Feel free to try a sneak attack with a bow.
- Kill her and loot the cell key off of her body.
- Theranis is lying dead by the cell.
- Search him to realize that he doesn't have the book.
- Talk to your good pal Amusei in the cell.
- He'll agree to tell you all about the book if you break him out.
- Let him loose and led him out of the castle.
- Note: You now have a bounty of 500 gold.
- Save here.
- I took an absurd route during the day to get out. It led through the secret areas in back including a hidden throne room while being chased by the Count himself.
- The best way is the simplest though.
- Walk out of the barrel and sneak through the hallway.
- If it is night then the guards should be scattered.
- Tip: The bounty should only apply if the guards actually catch you. If they are chasing you, you can outrun them and get Amusei out. This drops the bounty and they won't have anything to charge you with. You can also just resist arrest and run out of the Castle. Once Amusei is gone you can just pay the 500 gold fine and get your stuff back.
- Walk into the dining room and head out the door to the right that leads into the main hall.
- Just walk down the isle and leave through the front door.
- You're now in the Castle Courtyard. Just run out the main gate and run across the bridge.
- Once you're across you'll get a message that you've escaped.
- This will drop the bounty on your head.
- Amusei will tell you that the book is hidden in the bushes behind Nerastarel's house.
- Travel to the city and head to the houses on the right.
- The arrow will point right to it.
- It's just laying on the ground by a well.
- Pick it up and take it back to S'krivva.
- Accept your 400 gold reward.
- Go ahead and cure yourself of Porphyric Hemophilia if you have it.
Taking Care of Lex
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Thieves' Guild: Taking Care of Lex Quest (Time: 7:07)
- It's time to "take care of" Lex.
- Don't get too excited. We're just giving him a transfer to Anvil. It's actually a promotion.
- Talk to S'krivva once you've fenced 500 gold worth of goods.
- Have about 500 gold with you as well. You'll need it later.
- This is a complicated theft.
- You first need to steal the list from Dairihill's office.
- She's been hiding it from the Countess so she could convince her to hire a relative as a bodyguard.
- Talk to the beggars about it and they'll point you to the castle blacksmith Orrin.
- Follow the arrow to find him in the smith shop or the dining hall.
- He'll ask you to follow him. It seems he's a fellow thief.
- He will open a secret passage in the basement.
- If you talk to him he'll give you the times when Dairihill isn't there.
- She eats dinner with the Countess from 8 to 11 PM and stays in the hall for greeting in the morning.
- I suggest you wait until 9 PM and go through the passage.
- Save and wait for the guards in the hall to be away on their patrol route.
- Walk straight ahead and pick the lock on Dairihill's office door.
- Break into her desk and steal the note.
- Just backtrack and leave.
- Find another beggar and ask where a good forger is.
- They'll tell you about a forger in the abandoned house in Anvil.
- Just follow the arrow to the abandoned house. It is located by the Mages Guild building.
- Head upstairs to find a stranger. If he's not there just wait a bit.
- He'll agree to forge the list for 500 gold.
- There isn't another way. Just pay him. S'krivva will reimburse you at the end.
- Wait 24 hours and he'll have the new list done.
- You now need it sealed.
- Travel to the Imperial City prison.
- Wait until night and break into the Legion Commander's office.
- The office is across from the main entrance to the prison, on the outside circle of buildings.
- This is the same desk you'll put the fingers in if you did the Dark Brotherhood quest.
- Note: This area seems bugged. He doesn't always leave.
- Just pick the lock when no one's looking.
- If he's not there just activate the seal. It's laying on the desk.
- If he is there, just resist arrest, use the seal, yield to the commander, pay your fine, steal stuff back from the evidence chest.
- Now you can just head into the main hall with the list.
- Talk to the commander and tell her you're the messenger.
- Hand her the list and she'll pick Lex.
- For extra fun talk to Dairihill to receive a 20 gold tip and some empty threats.
- Talk to Lex now.
- Follow the arrow to catch him while he's on patrol or just find him in the South Watchtower or The Bloated Float.
- He'll accept the transfer begrudgingly and admit defeat to the Gray Fox.
- Report back to S'krivva for a 1000 gold reward.
Turning a Blind Eye
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Thieves' Guild: Turning a Blind Eye Quest (Time: 8:54)
- You will need 600 gold in fenced goods for this one.
- Wait until Methredhel comes and finds you.
- If you really want to move forward you can wait in the Imperial City. She can find you faster here.
- Meet with the Gray Fox in Bruma at Helvius Cecia's house.
- It's on the left side of town past the Inn.
- Go inside.
- Head downstairs to find the Gray Fox sitting in a chair.
- He'll ask that you carry out a special mission for him.
- It seems that he has a special plan in the works and needs some items for it.
- You need to steal the Savilla's Stone from the Temple of the Ancestor Moths.
- Note: The blood price is not in effect. You can kill all of the guardians inside if you want.
- The temple is way northeast of Bruma.
- It's a long walk.
- Go ahead and get started.
- Talk to Brother Holger once you reach the temple.
- He's the only monk who will really talk to you about the stone.
- Get his disposition as high as you can and start asking about the stone and the catacombs.
- Eventually you can ask him to take you to them.
- Follow him up the path and into the tomb.
- You are now in a dungeon level.
- You can kill any of the blind monks from this point onward.
- If you want you can sneak past them, but you will not get anything for your troubles.
- They are really easy to kill too. Most don't even wield swords.
- There are a few ways to get there. You can go straight through the rooms if you want.
- If you stick to the tunnels and keep moving forward you will reach the stone.
- Head through the door ahead of you and then take the path to the right.
- Keep moving until you come to a point where you can take another path to the right.
- This should lead you to a door to the Cavern Catacombs.
- In this next area just move forward and then take the path to the right.
- Note:There are two paths and both will take you to the end.
- Tip: There's a good bit of nice loot in the caverns. Feel free to explore and loot.
- You will come to a door.
- Open the door and move through the room.
- You should see a door that takes you to the Caverns of the Moth.
- You will probably run into some wraiths by this point. Just be alert and ready to fight.
- There will be a trap right as you enter. This whole area is well trapped so be careful. The damage to your health isn't too bad, but it will add up.
- Follow the path and take the left path when it splits up.
- You will come to another room. You can go through it for a shortcut. Just watch out for the monks.
- Keep an eye out for more pressure traps and keep moving forward.
- Leave the room and then keep going forward.
- Ignore the other paths and just keep going straight when it splits up again.
- Jump over a tripwire ahead of you and try to avoid the log trap.
- Once you're past that just keep moving until the fork in the path.
- Take the right one and go through the door to enter the Shrine of the Moth.
- Move up to a big room with a monk and a defense spire.
- Kill the monk and avoid the magic spells of the spire.
- Savilla Stone's is right there on the little stone table in front of the spire.
- Grab it and run.
- You can backtrack or run past the spire.
- There is a cave to the northeast that has an interesting chest with a note about the Gray Fox's Cowl.
- There is also a ladder that takes you right out of the cave.
- Travel back to Bruma and visit the Gray Fox.
- He's still be in Cecia's house.
- Hand over Savilla's Stone for your reward of 500 gold.
Arrow of Extrication
- You will need to have fenced 700 gold worth of items to start this one.
- Just wait in any city for awhile.
- Amusei will run up and give you the next meeting place. He'll find you faster if you wait in the Imperial Waterfront.
- He's waiting for you in Chorrol at Malintus Ancrus's house.
- Just follow the arrow and go inside.
- Talkto the Gray Fox starts this new mission.
- You need to steal an arrow from you a wizard, simple? No.
- Travel to Bravil and ask the beggars about Fathis Aren.
- They should tell you that he has an impenetrable fortress outside of town. You can only get to it through a secret passage in the castle.
- Travel to the castle and walk inside.
- Head up the stairs and wait.
- There will be two guards at the door for a lot of day.
- They will usually take a break by about 2 PM. Use the chance to break in.
- Pick the lock and enter the hallway.
- There is another patrolling guard in this hallway so find cover quick.
- Move left a bit and then forward.
- Fathis Aren's room is right there.
- Pick the lock and enter the room.
- Shut the door to ensure the guards don't see you.
- Search both the chests and loot the room.
- The arrow isn't here.
- Look at the conspicuous pillars across from the door.
- Pull the one to the right and you'll open the secret portal to his Grotto.
- Enter the door.
- This is one big dungeon with plenty of Daedra, Dremora, and hostile conjurers.
- Head straight ahead and unlock the gate.
- There is a pool ahead of you.
- Jump into the pool.
- Swim down just a little bit and swim through the hole in the wall to the left.
- This will take you past a locked door that you don't have the key for.
- Note: If you head down far you'll eventually end up fighting the game's Giant Slaughterfish. This isn't really a tough fight, but you may not want to mess with it now.
- Keep swimming through the tunnel until you reach some steps to your left.
- Climb out of the water and open the gate to the right.
- Keep walking down this new path and turn left when you can.
- You will be able to just stick to this path until you reach a door that takes you to the Wizard's Lair.
- In the Lair you will run into a few more conjurers.
- They shouldn't be tougher than any mage you've faced so far.
- Walk through and make a right to enter a large room.
- Kill any enemies and then move forward to the next until you see a set of stairs.
- These will lead to Fathis Aren's Tower.
- Save now.
- Important: If you are a member of the Mages Guild, you cannot kill Fathis Aren. He is apparently a member in good standing with them. You will have to get a whole bunch of vampire dust and daedra hearts to buy your way back in. Just don't kill him.
- Head out into the courtyard and start killing the leveled Daedra around the area.
- Try to avoid Fathis if you can.
- Carve out a path to the stairs up and go up to the next level.
- Keep fighting and go up to the third.
- If you see Fathis just run and ignore him.
- Follow the arrow and to a little room.
- Open the chest to the right and grab the Arrow of Extrication (actually just the arrowhead).
- Run out of the castle.
- If Fathis is alive he won't chase you for long.
- Just run away and swim for a bit to lose them all.
- Once you are in the clear you can fast travel back to Chorrol and talk to the Gray Fox again.
- He'll give you 500 gold and thank you.
- Fathis Ules in the Imperial City is now an available fence with a huge bankroll.
- I really doubt you're stealing for money at this point in the game though.
Boots of Springheel Jak
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Thieves' Guild: Boots of Springheel Jak Quest (Time: 7:29)
- You'll need to have fenced 800 gold worth of items for this one to start.
- Wait for awhile and Amusei will track you down.
- He'll tell you to meet up with the Gray Fox in Cheydinhal at Ganrendel's house.
- Follow the arrow and enter the house.
- Talking to the Gray Fox will net you the next mission.
- He needs the special Boots of Springheel Jak.
- You will need to find his grave, as the rumors are that he was buried in them.
- Your only clue is to talk to Jakben in the Imperial City. This noble is his only known descendant.
- Ask a beggar and they'll point you to his house in the Talos Plaza District.
- You will need to break in during the day.
- Jakben heads out at night and you'll be better served if he's at home.
- His servant will probably be in the front room.
- He'll just cower in utter fear of you.
- Just move quickly and don't taunt him or he may call the guards.
- Follow the arrow to find Jakben in the house.
- He's usually in his room on the second floor.
- Talk to him and ask about Springheel Jak.
- He's buried in the Catacombs below the house. A frightened Jakben will hand you the key.
- Head down to the basement and look for the wooden door that leads to the Catacombs.
- There are a good number of vampires down here.
- Just fight your way through them.
- Go straight for a bit and through the door ahead.
- Take a turn to the left and then take the branch to the right.
- You'll have to unlock the door to enter Jak's crypt.
- Tip: The vampires are well spread out and carry a lot of good loot. You should probably explore the small area and pillage to your heart's content.
- Loot Jak's coffin and you'll just find his diary.
- If you read it you'll learn that Springheel Jak was a vampire who never died.
- He merely changed his name. Jakben is Springheel Jak.
- When you are finished reading it he should appear at the crypt entrance to challenge you.
- If he doesn't just wait for a bit until he interrupts.
- Kill him and loot his body for the boots.
- Go pray at a temple.
- You probably have Porphyric Hemophilia.
- Head back to the Gray Fox in Cheydinhal and give him the boots.
The Ultimate Heist
- This is the last real mission.
- It is a long mission.
- You will probably need about 40-60 minutes to beat it.
- Tip: There is a lot of fighting with undead and vampires. Bring a lot of cure diseases potions, repair hammers, lockpicks, and healing potions. You will also need a bow.
- You will have to have fenced 1,000 gold to receive the messenger through the usual waiting game.
- Follow the arrow to talk to the Gray Fox in Othrelo's house in the Elven Gardens District of the Imperial City.
- This is a multiphase mission.
- You first have to activate the Glass of Time.
- It is located in the basement of the Palace.
- Enter the Elder Council Chambers through the Green Emperor Way.
- Pick the lock on the basement door.
- You can now be arrested for trespassing.
- The room has one small circular center room with a hallway wrapped around it.
- The guard should just be starting his small patrol when you start.
- He walks through the center room and then crosses out to walk the hallway.
- You can sneak past him by moving from pillar to pillar if he's in the center or cut through the center if he's on the outside.
- Just sneak to the end of the hallway and activate the Glass of Time.
- You'll receive a new message confirming that the Old Way is now open.
- Sneak out using the same technique. If you're caught just pay the small fine.
- Head to the Imperial City Arboretum and follow the arrow until you find a sewer grate leading to the South East Tunnel.
- Drop down and fight your way through the first room. There shouldn't be anything tougher than goblins or rats for the first part.
- Unlock the gate and then head down the stairs.
- Fight some more little monsters and then activate the crank in the room.
- This opens a door to the northeast that you can travel through.
- Kill some more little monsters and then jump into the water.
- Move ahead and eventually reach an area with a door that leads to Below the Bloodworks.
- Note: Do not touch any cranks I don't tell you to touch. You can make your quest much more difficult if you randomly use them.
- You will now be fighting vampires.
- Head to the right and clear out the enemies blocking your path.
- Go north and follow the path until you come into a vampire torture room.
- The gate at the end of the room should be open.
- You should be in a room with some bridges and water.
- Cross the bridge and go through to another room and turn another crank.
- Keep following the path until you reach some stairs.
- Go down the stairs and then turn to head north through a tunnel.
- Keep moving and cross the water.
- There will be another crank to turn to the east.
- You can use it to raise the water gates that are blocking the nearby tunnel.
- Go through this tunnel and unlock the gate at the end of the next room.
- Drop down through the marked manhole so you can enter the Palace Sewers.
- Move across the bridge ahead of you. Kill all the enemies in your path.
- Walk down the stairs at the end of the bridge.
- Go through the tunnel visible to the northwest of the stairs.
- Move through another gate.
- Cross some water and open a door that's blocking your way to the northeast tunnel.
- Move around the water and then unlock the gate to the southeast.
- You can now cross the water and reach the Strange Door to the Old Way.
- Prepare to face a lot of zombies and wraiths.
- Tip: Watch your health. Dread zombies can give you a condition called Astral Vapors. This keeps your magicka from regenerating. It can really mess up your healing abilities in a fight. Manage your cure disease potions to last you until the end of the Old Way.
- Go down the stairs and follow the path until you reach a hole in the wall.
- Follow this tunnel until you reach a new hole that leads out into a bigger hall.
- Fall through and follow the new path until you find an exit to the Lost Catacombs.
- Get ready to fight a lot of undead.
- Tip: If you are overwhelmed feel free to just run past the enemies. You'll reach an area at the end that is perfect for hit-and-run tactics.
- There isn't much to be said about this area.
- Just keep moving forward through the long big tunnel.
- You will eventually reach a big stone room with two high railings.
- Put on the Boots of Springheel Jak to jump up to either side.
- Use this opportunity to kill off any stragglers that are harassing you.
- Jump up and hit the blocks on both sides.
- This will probably activate two magicka spires to the sides that will fire at you.
- Dodge their spells and drop down to reach the Hall of Epochs through the newly opened doors.
- Clear out the area and look around.
- There should be some Welkynd Stones. Grab one and hold onto them for the main quest.
- There are two movable walls that are near the area you have to stand on to shoot through the keyhole pillar.
- Walk to the southern wall on the top level.
- There will be a gate that is locked.
- Pick the lock and head inside.
- Press the push block and jump down to the lower level.
- There is a new passage that leads to another part of the Hall of Epochs. Go through it.
- Head straight and turn left as you enter a large room.
- Work through the room and head to the right.
- You will move through another area with a high level ghost guarding a push block at the end of the hallway.
- Kill the ghost and push the block.
- Head back to the part with the movable walls.
- The walls and the grates blocking the pressure plate have been lowered.
- 2 high level undead were released in the process.
- Kill them and then take up a position on the bridge by the inactive magicka spires.
- Stand on the pressure plate to have the keyhole pillar turn around and reveal a hole.
- SAVE YOUR GAME!
- You only have one shot.
- The arrow is bugged and may not work if you retrieve it.
- Reload if you miss.
- Get out your bow.
- If you didn't bring one like I told you, you can probably find one on a dead skeleton.
- Load the Arrow of Extrication into the bow.
- Aim the shot by putting the crosshair a bit above the eyes of the statue.
- Adjust your shot as necessary until you make it.
- Head over to the new passage.
- The two guards have come to life so kill them.
- Pay attention to the alert to go into stealth mode.
- The reason is that this door leads into the Palace Guard Barracks and there will be sleeping guards in the room regardless of the time.
- Go through the door.
- Save.
- Go through the door at the end and enter the hallway.
- There is one patrolling palace guard in the hallway.
- Sneak behind him and duck into the recesses in the wall when he stops to turn around.
- Keep doing this until he turns around at the end.
- Slip behind him and go through the door that leads to The Elder Scrolls Library.
- There is another guard patrolling this hallway.
- Use the same trick to move along until you get to the door that leads to the Elder Scrolls Library.
- It will be in the wall to the left about halfway down the hall.
- Pick the lock and move through into the library.
- You can stop sneaking for now.
- There is a mini-hall here.
- Pick the lock to the actual library and head inside.
- Calmly walk down the big staircase.
- If you run they will be suspicious.
- Sit down in the chair and wait for a monk to bring the scroll to you.
- Activate the scroll to pick it up.
- You now just have to escape.
- Save.
- You will need to calmly leave the library.
- The monks weren't suspicious of me but other people haven't been as lucky.
- Backtrack to the top and exit.
- Get into the main hallway and start moving forward.
- You can't leave the way you got in.
- Keep an eye on the patrolling guard and move up the hallway until you reach the door to the Moth Priests' Quarters.
- This area has a patrolling guard and a bunch of Moth Priests walking through it.
- Use the same trick with the indentations to avoid the guard and the monks.
- The monks can still hear you so be careful.
- Make sure you don't bump into them.
- Move up the hallway until you reach the door to the Imperial Battlemages' Quarters.
- Sneak behind the patrolling guard and break into the Battlesmages Quarters.
- The door is on the left wall halfway through.
- Save first to be sure.
- There should just be one mage here.
- That mage will walk between the two rooms here.
- There are two doors at the back wall.
- Move along the right wall and loot the potions and soul gems in the display cases if you want.
- Wait by the right door until the mage opens the door to the left.
- As she opens it, open the door in front of you and sneak inside.
- You are now in the bedroom area.
- Head toward the fireplace.
- Save again.
- You need a high acrobatics or high health to survive.
- Take a moment and get to full health.
- Activate the grate and chose to take a leap of faith.
- If you are good enough you'll survive the fall.
- If you die you just need to put on the Boots of Springheel Jak.
- The fall will break the boots though.
- At least try to see if you can survive, since the boots are pretty nice.
- The rest of this mission is easy.
- You're back in the sewer.
- Backtrack and find the entrance to the Palace Sewers.
- Backtrack further to make it to the Bloodworks.
- Follow the quest arrow and east through the new gate and up a new path.
- Keep going until you reach a door to the Market District Sewers.
- Drop into the water and move over to the other side.
- Turn the wheel to open the door to the right.
- Go through this tunnel and take the exit into the basement of The Best Defense.
- They shouldn't say anything about you leaving the basement. NPCs only get mad if they see you break into a restricted area.
- Go back to the Elven Gardens District and head to Othrelos' house.
- Talk to the Gray Fox and give him the scroll.
- You aren't done yet.
- He'll give you a ring and ask you to take it to the Countess in Anvil.
- Head to the castle and give her the ring.
- Tell her its from a stranger.
- Just watch the cinematic play out and learn the truth.
Guildmaster
- You are now able to become the Gray Fox.
- That's really the only thing you'll get out of it.
- The new Guild Hall isn't very interesting.
- You should go into your new bedroom once and take some cool Thieves Guild souvenirs for your home.
- That's about all you can do for the Guild.
- The real bonus is the Cowl of the Gray Fox.
- Putting on the Cowl will make you the Gray Fox.
- You are actually separate beings.
- It also gives a nice boost to Sneak and Strength with a strong Feather spell.
- When you are the Gray Fox you will always have a bounty that is equivalent to 500 gold minus the amount that your real persona has.
- Any crimes you commit as the Gray Fox will only count towards his bounty.
- You can kill a whole town and then take off the Cowl in front of the guards.
- Just yield to them and you won't have any bounty.
- It is at least handy to play around with.
- If the guards attack you while wearing it, the thieves and usually the beggars will run to your defense.
- This is a cool way to start a war in the Waterfront District.
- Save first though.
The Dark Brotherhood
- The Dark Brotherhood is a guild of assassins who kill for profit while also honoring The Night Mother.
- You don't have to be much of a sneak to do any of the missions though and you can make it work for any character.
- Note: The Dark Brotherhood has a lot of subtext to their plots. I will do my best to provide it for you to give a little more insight into their world.
Joining the Dark Brotherhood
- You don't join Dark Brotherhood, Dark Brotherhood joins you.
- Lame jokes aside, you won't have to find the Dark Brotherhood. They will find you all on their own as soon as you commit a murder.
- There are a few ways to accomplish this task.
- If you did it right you'll usually receive a message informing you that unknown forces have seen your actions.
- The first is the most straight-forward. Go and kill someone that isn't important.
- This can be just about any of the people working in the stables throughout Cyrodiil.
- Tip: If you're desperate you have a somewhat cheap option to join if you're a member of the Thieves Guild. The guards usually have a sixth sense for murder and can figure out you're guilty without any witnesses sometimes. The method is simple. Kill the stable worker at the stables outside the Imperial City. Then fast travel into the Waterfront district before you're spotted. If a guard sees you then just run or resist arrest until you can make it to Armand to use the half-rate option.
- Tip: If you have the money to pay for the 1000 gold bounty, then you can just murder the person without any regard to the consequences. There usually aren't many and I've already mentioned how easy it is to steal your stolen equipment back.
- Once you kill someone just go to bed and Lucien Lachance will visit.
Quest Murder Options
- The game will regard at least two missions as murder without you receiving a bounty.
- The first is the Arena's final battle. If you complete the Grey Prince's quest before the battle he will refuse to fight you in the ring and ask you to end his life with honor.
- The Dark Brotherhood should note this as murder and you'll receive the message.
- The other way seems to be the Siren's Deception quest in Anvil. I know that I mysteriously murdered someone without my knowledge and this seems to be the only other quest that the online community notes.
A Knife in the Dark
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: A Knife in the Dark Quest (Time: 2:40)
- For this mission you will be expected to kill a man hiding in the Inn of Ill Omen.
- This is basically in the middle of nowhere.
- Find the quest marker on the middle of the road running from Imperial City to Bravil.
- Fast travel to your nearest marker and walk there.
- Head into the Inn of Ill Omen and speak to the innkeeper.
- He'll tell you that Rufio spends most of time sleeping downstairs.
- If he's awake just wait a few hours and he'll head back down.
- I was able to sneak up on him in full Blade armor. It's not hard.
- His door will be the unlocked one at the end of the hallway.
- Open it and sneak into the room.
- Draw the Blade of Woe for style and slash him with it once in a sneak attack.
- He should die easily.
- For extra morbidity you can just sleep in Rufio's bed and wait for Lucien to find you.
- You are now a member of the Dark Brotherhood and you have been given the password to their sanctuary in Cheydinhal.
- Head to Cheydinhal and then follow the marker to the abandoned house on the far side of the town.
- Pick the lock to enter.
- Note: It's abandoned so the guards won't say anything.
- Walk across the room and head into the basement.
- Walk through the big hole in the wall and head to the ominous looking skull door.
- When it ask you the question "What is the color of night?" respond with "Sanguine, my Brother."
- You'll enter the sanctuary.
- Speak to Ocheeva when you enter to understand your goals in the guild.
- When you are ready for your next mission you can ask Vincente Valtieri.
- Tip: The members of the Dark Brotherhood are some of the best characters in the game. You should talk to them before each mission to get their "interesting" advice and hear their back stories.
Story Note
- There's actually a lot going on in this one. If you explored the Imperial City you probably found a house marked as closed for investigation following a Dark Brotherhood ritual.
- If you break in you'll find a Human Heart and Human Skin by an altar.
- You can speak to the man if you ask the jailor at the Imperial City to let you visit a prisoner.
- You'll find out that Rufio killed his daughter and he wanted revenge.
- If you choose to taunt Rufio before his death he'll admit to it and beg for forgiveness.
A Watery Grave
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: A Watery Grave Quest (Time: 5:38)
- Your mission is to kill a pirate who's docked in Imperial City.
- Dark Brotherhood missions will often have special conditions.
- Fulfilling these conditions will give you a special item.
- You will receive a Black Band if you don't kill a single pirate besides the captain during the mission.
- This is a decent piece of equipment and doing the mission right is more fun usually.
Option 1: Acrobatics
- This is my favorite since it makes me feel like an incredible assassin.
- You should put on your Dark Brotherhood armor and walk to the crates being loaded at the edge of the dock.
- Wait until it is about midnight.
- Climb up on the crates.
- If it ask if you want to stowaway say no and climb over to the rail.
- Now get a little bit of a running start and jump onto the balcony.
- Save and marvel at one of the few times Acrobatics will help.
- Pick the lock and sneak into the cabin.
- The captain should be asleep.
- Just sneak up and kill him with a few well placed hits.
- If you don't kill him with the first few shots then a few pirates will run up to check on him.
- Just run out the back door and jump off the balcony.
- Swim to the shore and travel back to Vincente to receive your reward and complete the quest.
Option 2: Stealth
- This option is a bit of a pain but you'll still get the bonus.
- Your fellow assassins should have told you that they were loading cargo in port.
- You can walk to the end of the dock and approach an open crate.
- You will be presented with the option to stowaway and sneak aboard.
- Sneak out of the crate and keep an eye out for patrols.
- Head to the ladder down the hall that leads to the mid deck.
- Wait for two guards to talk and then walk past you.
- Once you're clear you can go up the ladder to the top level with the captain's cabin.
- Kill him and grab the key off his body.
- Run to the door at the back of the cabin.
- Use the key or just lockpick it open.
- This is the back balcony. Just jump into the water and swim down to the shore.
- Head back to Vincente to receive your reward and complete the mission.
Option 3: Attack
- This option will forfeit the bonus.
- Just charge onto the ship and the pirates on deck will attack.
- The guards won't appreciate this and will defend you.
- Once the deck is clear just break through the door and enter the captain's room.
- Kill the Captain in a duel to win.
- You may have to kill two pirates who will respond from below deck.
- Just walk back and report to Vincente to receive your reward.
- It may still be possible to get the bonus if you don't kill the pirates below deck.
Accidents Happen
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Accidents Happen Quest (Time: 5:15)
- Your next mission will be to kill Baenlin but you have to make it look like an accident.
- Vincente explains that you should do this by dropping a large minotaur trophy onto Baenlin while he's reading between 8 PM and 11 PM.
- He is a wealthy man living in Bruma with his own bodyguard/servant.
- You will lose the mission's bonus if you kill said servant or if you fail to kill Baenlin in an accident.
- Head to Bruma and walk behind Baelin's house.
- Wait until it's past 8 PM.
- You should put on your shrouded armor and any stealth gear you have.
- Head through the basement doors in back and move through the wine cellar.
- You should be able to walk out of the cellar and past the two men without even crossing their line of sight.
- Walk up the stairs and turn right.
- You'll enter his bedroom.
- There is a crawlspace panel by the dresser.
- Use it like a door and sneak through it.
- Make a quicksave.
- Untie the rope and drop the head on him.
- You should receive confirmation of the kill.
- If you don't you should reload your quicksave and try again the next day.
- Heading out will be a bit more difficult.
- You need to head out of the crawlspace and down the stairs.
- The manservant Gromm will be staring at his dead master.
- Just sneak past and make sure to stop running and start walking.
- Slide past Gromm and head into the wine cellar.
- Slip out the back.
- Report back to Vincente to receive your reward.
Scheduled for Execution
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Scheduled for Execution Quest (Time: 2:38)
- This will be a little path down memory lane.
- You'll have to break back into Imperial City's prison and kill your old buddy, Valen Dreth, from the game's opening.
- Note: This mission will actually require a good bit of stealth if you want to get through it without any serious issues.
- You cannot kill a single guard on this level if you want the bonus item.
- This one is actually pretty handy.
- It's the "Scales of Pitiless Justice". Just having it in your inventory will boost your strength, intelligence, and agility by 2. It will knock your personality down by 2 though. That's a decent trade.
- Receive the key to open the grate on the Sewers that you first came out of.
- Fast travel to that location and open the grate.
- Start out by walking down the path until you come to a T-crossing.
- Note: If you ever get lost you should just check your map and follow the arrow. Just a quick check is usually enough.
- Take a right at the crossing and keep going until you find a door.
- Head further into the sewers.
- Just keep the following the relatively straight path until you come to a room that has a river of sewage running down the middle of it.
- Break from the main path and jump into the river.
- Walk downstream through the little archway and enter the next room.
- Follow the path into the room.
- Take the path that curves left.
- You should find yourself in another room with a sewage stream running down the center.
- Get across the stream and find a locked gate.
- Pick the lock and head through the now open gate to go further into the sewers.
- There is only one way out of his room.
- Pick the lock on the grate blocking the way and keep moving.
- The path is pretty straightforward. Just keep moving along it until you get to another room with a sewage stream down the center.
- Fight the urge to cross it and just run alongside the river.
- Find the room on the right side by the top of the river.
- Enter it to find a little room with a set of stairs.
- Go up the stairs and then pick the lock on the ladder heading up to the old Sanctum room.
- You should get a nice sense of deja vu here.
- Put away any torch your holding and make sure you have your stealth gear on.
- Go into sneak mode and wait for the two guards to stop talking and split up.
- Head through the door ahead of you.
- Save before you start this next part.
- You will have to get past the guard and make it up the stairs.
- He will move between two different positions.
- You will have to catch him while he's moving between his spot on the stairs to the spot in the corner.
- When you enter the room turn right and enter the nice shadows.
- Follow the shadows down the line they make and wait behind the right pillar of the stairs.
- Wait until the guard isn't looking and hop up onto them and move up the stairs.
- Head through the door at the top to reach the Imperial Subterrane.
- The next room just has one guard watching it.
- He patrols around the whole room.
- Stick to the pillars and stay out of his sight until you can make it past.
- You can get lucky and be in the room while he's down in the other hallway.
- In this case run down the left side of the room and stay behind a pillar in the far corner.
- As soon as he walks back you just have to slip past him and walk down the hallway.
- This should be it for the sneaking though.
- Head past the guard's rest spot and then move up the stairs.
- Just keep moving up the path.
- Follow the arrows and head through a series of doors until you reach the end.
- You'll end up walking through the hole that takes you into your old prison cell.
- Wait until the lone guard is done talking to Valen.
- He'll walk away and it will be just you and your target.
- Pick the lock on your old cell door and taunt Valen if you want.
- He'll call for the guards but they won't come.
- Walk down the path to the end of the cell block and pick up the two keys on the table.
- The first key opens Valen's cell.
- You don't have to open it though. If you want you can just shoot an arrow or two through the bars.
- Once he's dead just head up the stairs and walk out into the prison.
- Note: You have to grab the key off of the table or else you'll need to backtrack the whole route.
- Report back to Vicente to get your reward.
The Renegade Shadowscale
- Note: This isn't actually a Dark Brotherhood quest. You get it through Teinaava at this point though. You'll need to complete it soon before certain actions you'll take as part of a later mission.
- Talk to Teinaava and agree to help him with his problem.
- It seems that an old friend of his has decided to turn and stop being an assassin for the crown.
- This is a personal insult to him and you need to take care of it.
- He wants you to kill the renegade Scar-Tail and take his heart as proof.
- He lives in Bogwater Camp out in the swamp.
- Travel a good ways east of Leyawiin to find him.
- Finding the camp is actually the hardest part though.
- Once you get there you can kill him or talk to him.
- If you talk to him you'll find out that he's hurt from a royal agent's attempt to kill him.
- He'll offer to tell you the location of his treasure if you let him live.
- It's in a tree stump in the camp if you don't want to cooperate.
- I felt sorry for him and decided to let him live.
- You can take the treasure and get the heart of the Argonian agent sent for him.
- Teinaava won't be able to tell the difference.
- Talk to Teinaava and give him the heart to complete the quest.
- You will have his admiration and receive some really nice boots.
- They give 8 points to acrobatics and 8 points to blade. They're great for an assassin.
The Assassinated Man
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: The Assassinated Man Quest (Time: 8:21)
- This one will be a nice relaxing vacation compared to the last mission.
- You will actually be saving someone's life.
- Your job is to use the special Languorwine Blade to "kill" him.
- This will pull a nice Romeo & Juliet moment where he'll fake his own death so that you can revive him.
- Head to his house in Chorrol.
- Save and then pick the lock to get into his house.
- He'll explain the act you'll play and ask you to head to the level above him.
- In a minute the other assassin will come in.
- Hides-His-Heart will talk for a moment and then Francois will begin his act.
- When he begs the Dark Brotherhood assassin to please not "cut him with that wicked blade" run up and slash him once.
- Hides-His-Heart will try to kill you if you wait any longer so run away.
- Head out the main door and run out the main gate.
- I have never been chased during this quest, so you shouldn't have any more issues.
- Run out the gate for the quest to move to the next stage.
- Wait a full day and then head down into the chapel's undercroft.
- Find Francois' body on display in the ring wing.
- Just try to talk to him and you'll use the antidote.
- He'll get up and ask you to take him to The Grey Mare.
- His ancestors won't look kindly on this act of cowardice in their tomb, so a number of zombies will rise up and attack you.
- These will be special zombies who are a bit tougher than their counterparts in dungeons.
- You can't let Francois die!
- He is mortal and you have to protect him.
- Turn around and fight the zombie that appears behind you.
- Run ahead and clear a path for Francois to head out.
- There shouldn't be more than a few in the main area.
- Run out the door and head to The Grey Mare to finish the quest.
- Report back to Vincente for your reward.
- You'll receive a few special items at the end of this quest.
- This was actually your last mission from Vincente.
- If you want he can now make you a vampire.
- He will also give you a nice amulet called Cruelty's Heart.
- Best of all, you will receive a special Sanctuary Key that will let you use the well beside the house to quickly enter and exit the Sanctuary.
- This saves you from traveling through the long annoying path in the house.
The Lonely Wanderer
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: The Lonely Wanderer Quest (Time: 4:39)
- You will get this and most of your next set of mission from Ocheeva.
- Your next mission will be in Imperial City.
- You need to kill a High Elf who's just moved there. His name is Faelian.
- The special conditions for this one are that you have to pull off a simple murder.
- Adamus Phillida is on duty in Imperial City and he's made it his life's goal to track down the Dark Brotherhood.
- You don't want him to suspect that its actually an assassination.
- Ask around and someone should point you to the Tiber Septim Hotel in the Palace district.
- The owner will tell you about Faelian and his girlfriend if you bribe her.
- You can't kill him here though, since there will be too many witnesses.
- Bribe his girlfriend and she'll confess that he has a terrible skooma addiction and he goes to Lorkmir's house each day to drink skooma.
- Head to Lorkmir's house and wait until its about 3 PM. Faelian will walk in and be all alone.
- You can just slash him a few times here to conduct a simple murder.
- Once he's dead just walk away to Ocheeva to complete the mission and receive your reward.
- You will get Shadowhunt as your bonus.
- It is a very nice bow and worth the extra bit of effort.
Story Note
- If you snoop around the house you'll actually find Lorkmir dead in the basement from a stab wound. Interesting.
Bad Medicine
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Bad Medicine Quest (Time: 5:52)
- Talk to Ocheeva for your next mission.
- You need to kill Roderick.
- He's hiding out in Fort Sutch with his band of mercenaries.
- He's very sick and slowly recovering through some special medicine.
- Your job is to swap out the medicine for some poison so that he's killed without anyone noticing.
- The bonus is something called The Deceiver's Finery. it boosts your Personality and Speechcraft by 8 points. It is worthless except as a sales item. If you don't want the bonus then don't kill yourself trying to get it.
- Tip: If you ask Teinaava he'll mark a separate, secret entrance to the Fort Sutch.
- Tip The secret entrance isn't really necessary for a stealthy assassin.
- Head out to Fort Sutch. It is located north of Anvil.
- Walk through the front door by going through a little tunnel outside.
- Once you enter, unlock a gate to your right.
- Head down this path and go up the stairs.
- You should be wearing your Dark Brotherhood gear if you want to stay hidden.
- Unlock the gate ahead and you'll be in a big square area below Roderick's bedroom.
- There is one guard patrolling the area and two guards who primarily patrol the upper part surrounding the bedroom.
- Wait until the two guards stop talking so that you can sneak past them and the patrolling guard.
- They're all pretty blind and the rooms are very dark.
- You shouldn't have much of a problem.
- Move up the set of stairs in the tunnel across the room.
- You will then need to turn left and head down a second tunnel until you get to the green arrow that marks the cupboard.
- Sneak to it and grab the medicine. Switch to the "put" screen and put in the bottle marked Roderick's poison. You can find it under the miscellaneous section of your inventory.
- Once it's there you should get a notice of your success.
- Get out without being seen.
- The two guards should be on their way back up.
- The easiest way out is to walk right past a sleeping/unconscious Roderick.
- Jump over the rail down into the big square area to dodge the two guards.
- Keep an eye on the lone guard patrolling the square.
- Save and sneak past.
- Backtrack your way out of the fort.
- Talk to Ocheeva to complete the quest and receive your reward.
Whodunit?
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Whodunit? (Time: 5:49)
- This is an incredibly fun quest to pull off.
- Talk to Ocheeva to start the next mission.
- You will have to kill 5 different party guests at a locked house in Skingrad.
- You will receive a special skill package boost if you can kill them all without anyone suspecting you.
- You'll find them in Summermist Manor. Fafnir, the doorman, is waiting outside. He will give you the only key and then lock everyone inside.
- There are many ways to carry this out and not one of them is wrong.
- The simplest way is just wait until they separate out during the chaos. Pick them off one at a time and they'll usually be none the wiser.
- The cooler way is to play them against each other.
- Note: Neville is the only one you have to really think about. He'll put on his armor after the first two murders. This makes it hard to stealth kill him. You'll have to kill him early or steal the armor from his chest.
- Go ahead and talk to each of them to feel out the situation.
- Use bribes, persuasion, or charm spells to make them like you.
- Matilde will ask if you want to form an alliance.
- Agree and tell her you think its in the basement.
- Once she's down there you can kill her.
- Convince Dovesi to wait for Antonius in his room. She's usually alone there.
- Antonius is almost always downstairs by himself. Save and do a stealth kill.
- Talk to Neville and he'll be sure that Nels is the assassin.
- He'll run over and kill Nels.
- Then you just have to kill Neville to complete the quest.
- Note: Usually the last two people will have one person who wants to kill the other thinking that they're the assassin.
- This makes it a bit easier to finish.
- You can kill them in about any order as long as you're not caught.
- Once you're done walk out the front door and talk to Ocheeva to get your reward.
Permanent Retirement
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Permanent Retirement Quest (Time: 2:56)
- It's time to kill Adamus Phillida.
- Ocheeva will ask you to kill this old enemy to gain revenge for the Dark Brotherhood.
- He's retired to a soft position in Leyawiin. Unfortunately he has his own bodyguard.
- Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to kill Adamus and then place his finger in the desk of his successor.
- Kill him however you want. The bonus is for placing his finger in the desk.
- You'll get 500 gold as the bonus.
- You will be granted the Rose of Sithis to kill him easily.
- This is an instant kill arrow as long as it doesn't hit armor.
- The best chance is to catch him while he's swimming in the pond outside the castle.
- He only takes off his armor to swim and to sleep.
- It's almost impossible to kill him in the barracks though.
- If you just can't pull off the kill in the pond you can choose to ambush him when he visits the coastal station during the day.
- You will have to kill him and his guard though. It will be a tough fight and you'll get a bounty.
- The best way is to take up a good position by the buildings near the pond.
- Wait until 3 PM and watch Adamus jump in for a swim.
- Save Your Game
- You only have one shot with the Rose of Sithis.
- Line up the shot and let the arrow fly.
- You will get a message if it hits him.
- Note: I always got a bounty for assault for this. It's just 40 gold. It seems to be a product of the physic guard syndrome. If you have some chameleon effects on you might be able to pull it off. Otherwise just pay off your bounty to one of the Doyen's or even a guard. You should know how to steal your stuff back by now.
- Walk up to the body and steal the finger from the inventory.
- Take a bunch of his keys. He still has the one for his office too.
- Travel to the prison and wait until night.
- Save before you attempt it.
- There is a weird bug where the replacement doesn't leave his desk at night.
- If this happens just do it while he's watching. It's a small fine anyway.
- Follow the arrow and break into his desk.
- Put the finger in his desk to complete the bonus part.
- A message will confirm this.
- Head back to the Sanctuary and talk to Ocheeva to get your reward.
- This is your last mission from her.
- You'll want to take care of your business in the Sanctuary before you move on.
Of Secret and Shadow
- Talk to Ocheeva to receive your sealed orders from Lucian Lachance.
- Read them in the inventory screen to learn that you have to travel to Fort Farragut to meet with him in person.
- Dark Guardians will fight you throughout.
- You'll want a combat setup for this one.
- It's another linear dungeon.
- The only thing of note is a dangerous booby trap about halfway through.
- There's a hole in the floor that drops you right unto a bed of spikes.
- Keep an eye out for it and try to jump across it.
- If you fall just heal up and keep going.
- Stick to the left side and follow the arrow.
- There's another lever in the floor that will open up the final gate to Lucian.
- Talk to him to receive your grim orders.
- Note: There are a lot of cool items in his room. You can find two human hearts (one on a plate *eww*) and 10 poison apples in a locked barrel in the back corner.
- The ladder also links up with a trapdoor outside.
- Ue this hollowed out tree in back of the fort for faster access.
- The poison apples will respawn over time if you want a good way to do your own assassinations.
The Purification
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: The Purification Quest (Time: 9:56)
- Your orders are pretty clear.
- You need to kill all of the other assassins through whichever means you choose.
- This shouldn't really be that hard for a warrior.
- The only really strong fighter is the orc.
- The simplest way is to take the ten poison apples in the locked barrel.
- Poison Lesson: You can kill just about any non-important character by using poison apples. You just have to remove all other food and make the poison apple their only food choice. Characters do eat in the game.
- Note: You will pretty much have free reign in the Sanctuary if things work like they did for me.
- Save before you start the purification act.
- You should be able to be caught pickpocketing members without anything happening. Most of them won't care unless you do it a lot.
- Start by taking all the meat off of the table and all the fruit off the top of the cupboard.
- Then proceed to pickpocket each of the assassins and give them a poison apple. Make sure to take any of the food that they're carrying.
- Just so you don't think your crazy, Telaendril isn't usually in the sanctuary anymore.
- Ocheeva has a note on her that explains Telaendril's recent assignment that requires her to travel around the world for recon duty.
- You can track her down or just wait until she comes back to the sanctuary.
- Once most of them have poison apples just wait for 24 hours and count the bodies.
- The Orc, Teinaava, Antoinette, and M'jaar should all die from the poison apples.
- Tip: If you are having trouble killing M'jaar, you should wait until he trains. He'll use up his magicka and be vulnerable.
- The only one's left should be Vicente, Ocheeva, and Telaendril.
- You can kill Vicente and Ocheeva by attacking them in their sleep.
- Tip: Reading the note in Vicente's desk will tell you that he's really allergic to garlic and that placing garlic in his inventory will kill him. He's not that hard to kill though.
- You now have to kill Telaendril.
- You can follow the arrow and catch her outside. She's usually in a secluded area.
- Start with a sneak attack and kill her. You shouldn't get a bounty for it if you aren't spotted by a guard.
- Once they're all dead, loot all their items. Make sure you open all their chests.
- They have some good items by their bed.
- When you're ready head back to Fort Farragut.
- You can use the trapdoor in the tree behind the fort to bypass the Dark Guardians. They'll still be dead if you didn't take more than 3 days.
- Talk to Lucian to get your new assignment. It turns out that you're his personal silencer now.
Affairs of A Wizard
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Affairs of a Wizard Quest (Time: 4:53)
- Head to the first marked dead drop on Hero Hill.
- Pick up the note to get your first target.
- You'll need to kill a wizard who's trying to become a lich.
- The hardest part will be the walk.
- It is really far east of Leyawiin.
- Once you get there it's pretty easy.
- There will be leveled undead or even wraiths. Bring the right weapon just in case.
- Kill the few monsters and grab the book off of his table to the left of the entrance.
- Read it to the end and you'll learn that you can kill him by just stealing his hourglass.
- Note: You should steal all the alchemic equipment around for extra money.
- Note: You should also grab the book "The Art of War Magic" for a humorous reference to Sun Tzu's book. It will also increase your destruction skill.
- Walk down a few steps and take either door to the second chamber.
- The wizard will be walking around his room tending to the three shrines.
- Wait until his back is turned and sneak up behind him.
- Pickpocket the hourglass and he'll die.
- Loot the chamber and head to the next dead drop for your reward.
- You'll find it in the old sack laying by the big tree in Chorrol.
Next of Kin
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Next of Kin Quest (Time: 8:08)
- This is another fun mission and the last true assassin mission.
- You will need to wipe out an entire family, but you only know the mother's location.
- Head to Applewatch to start the bloodbath.
- Talk to Perennia Draconis.
- Tell her you're looking for her children and she'll give you some gold and a list of their locations and behaviors.
- Convenient.
- Kill her and her dog inside. She's in the middle of nowhere so you shouldn't get a bounty.
- Note: There's no actual order to do these in. You can kill them however you want.
Andreas Draconis.
- He runs the Drunken Dragon Inn.
- It is located east of Leyawiin.
- Find it right by Atatar if you've done the Azani Blackheart quest.
- Head inside.
- There is usually an Imperial Legion soldier drinking in the bar.
- The quickest way to do this is to walk up to Andreas and tell him that his mother bled like a pig.
- He'll attack you and the guard will "save" you.
Sibylla Draconis
- As the gift note says, she's gone insane and lives with a bunch of animals in Muck Valley Cave.
- If you're lucky, she'll be in the front of the cave.
- You may have to walk to the back though.
- It's just a few bears and mountain lions though.
- Once you find her she'll immediately attack you.
- Kill her and move on to the next.
- Mattias
- He'll be a bit harder to kill.
- He lives in the Talos Plaza district.
- Wait until midnight and break into his house.
- There's a problem though.
- He has a servant stand watch at the desk downstairs.
- You'll have to sneak past him and go up to the bedroom.
- I did it by drinking a Chameleon potion that gave me 25% coverage.
- I was spotted but he couldn't identify me.
- He stared at me while I picked the lock and walked into Mattias' bedroom.
- Sneak up to his room and sneak attack him for what should be a one hit kill.
- Leave quickly and you shouldn't have a bounty.
Caelia Draconis
- This is a very hard one to do.
- Note: Carry at least 1000 gold. You will get a bounty unless you do it just right.
- Note If you have an open Thieves Guild mission in Leyawiin, the assassination might kick you out of the Guild until you pay the blood price.
- You can manage to ambush her on a patrol, but the best time is when she stops to sit down in the 2nd floor west wing of the Three Sisters' Inn.
- Note: She doesn't sleep. The only time is when she sits down at the Inn.
- She's all alone in the room at the Inn.
- You will need one really powerful attack to not get a big bounty.
- Get beside her and do a power attack with an enchanted weapon covered in poison.
- Kill her in a few hits with the sneak multiplier.
- You will probably get a bounty and it might even be for murder.
- You can probably make it to a Doyen to only pay half of it.
- Your quest will now be done.
- The next dead drop is in the Skingrad Courtyard.
Broken Vows
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Broken Vows/Final Justice/A Matter of Honor Quests (Time: 9:41)
- This is simple.
- The dead drop will tell you to kill J'Ghasta in his house in Bruma.
- He's a master at hand-to-hand combat.
- He might as well be using a paper sword.
- He bribed the guards so you will not get a bounty for killing him anywhere in Bruma.
- If you are good with weapons the fight should be a joke.
- Just head into the house and look for him.
- He may be in his secret training room in the basement.
- The trapdoor is hidden under a pile of cloth by the stairs.
- Walk down and taunt him to start the fight.
- Block his hits and ride out his staggering effects.
- He's not wearing armor so he'll die fast.
- Note: If you snoop around his house you'll find a locked beer keg by his bed. There is a Black Hand uniform in it. It's an upgrade from your initial set.
- The next dead drop with your reward is in a box under the bridge by Imperial City.
Final Justice
- Your next target is a crazy Argonian called Shaleez living in Flooded Mine.
- It's just a bit north of Bravil and you might have already found it.
- She is usually near the back.
- Just follow the arrow until you spot her.
- Don't try and fight her underwater.
- She can breathe underwater, as can all Argonians.
- Try to catch her by the campfire.
- She's just wearing light armor so it shouldn't be hard for a fighter.
- Kill her and leave the cave.
- The next dead drop is a coffin located outside the main door to Fort Redman.
- You can get there by heading North from Leyawiin.
- You will probably have to kill a guard bandit to get to the coffin.
A Matter of Honor
- Your next target is Alval Uvani.
- You will also receive a schedule of his movements throughout Cyrodil.
- If you used Ongar as a fence you've probably seen him in Bruma.
- Note: You may be very lucky when it comes to Alval. He actually does travel between the two points. It is possible that he will have been killed already by some animal or Daedra on the road. If so you'll immediately get a mission complete note.
- The only real place of note is his rented property in Leyawiin.
- It's the only private place to pull off the assassination.
- Just wait until 5 PM or so on Sundas. The wait screen will list the date, so you should be able to tell.
- He should come home and head upstairs.
- Head upstairs and kill him.
- He's a master of Destruction magic but that shouldn't help him much in close quarters.
- Just slash him a lot. He has no armor and only uses a dagger.
- You won't get a bounty for a kill inside the house.
- Note: He may not stop to rest at home if he's running behind schedule.
- Note: If you can't kill him than you can break into his home and steal all of his drinks. You can replace them with just a few bottles of mead. He's allergic to mead. Drinking it will paralyze him.
- It is also possible to just ambush him on the road.
- You may also kill him quickly in town and just pay the fine if you get tired of waiting.
- Once he's dead pick up your reward at the dead drop.
- You'll find it in a hollow stump in the garden behind Stonewall Shields and Edgar's Discount spells.
The Coldest Sleep
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Coldest Sleep/A Kiss Before Dying/Following a Lead Quests (Time: 5:10)
- You now have to kill a barbarian called Havilstein Hoar-Blood camping in the mountains outside of Bruma.
- There is no easy way for me to tell you how to get there.
- Head east from Bruma and just keep climbing the mountain.
- The only tip is that you generally head a bit left of the Bruma line.
- If you go to the right the mountain gets too steep to climb.
- Look for flat parts that you can climb.
- Once you reach the camp on the makeshift path you will be charged by Hoar-Blood and his dog.
- Kill the dog first since it seems to get a lot of staggering hits in.
- This will be a harder fight.
- Tip: Make sure that you save before you fight him. You do not want to climb the mountain again.
- You will need to be defensive and block his hits while using good counters.
- The battleaxe is enchanted too so you'll get hurt in this fight.
- Just try to stay alive.
- Head to the next dead drop in the flooded beginning part of an Aeylid ruin.
- It's called Nornal and you'll find the chest behind a locked gate to the right of the starting point.
- You shouldn't face anything tougher than rats and mud crabs at this part of the ruins.
A Kiss Before Dying
- Your next target is an elf in Bravil.
- His name is Ungolim and he spends most of his nights worshiping the Lucky Old Lady statue in the center of the city.
- The guards are bribed so they will ignore your fight.
- It is very hard to get a good sneak attack on him.
- The best you could realistically do is use a bow and arrow to get a stealth bonus hit to start with.
- He is a great marksman and he will often run away while peppering you with arrows.
- Try to catch him between your sword and the statue.
- Kill him quickly with a beserker-style attack to limit the damage.
- Once he's dead you'll get a visit from an old friend.
- Lucian will be devastated that he came too late.
- It turns out that you just killed the head of the Dark Brotherhood and they think it was Lucian's doing.
- All of the strange hits you pulled off after the Draconis ones were actually hits against the Dark Brotherhood's elite.
- You now need to make it right.
Following a Lead
- Your best bet is to catch him leaving the next note at the dead drop.
- Head to the marked spot by the barrel in Anvil and wait for an hour or two.
- An elf will eventually come up and stand by the barrel for a minute.
- Talk to him and he'll confess that some robed man paid him to leave the note.
- He'll tell you that the man lived in the Lighthouse basement.
- Note: Before you leave you should save and pickpocket the elf. He decided to keep your 500 gold for himself. You can pickpocket it off of him with a few tries.
- Head to the Anvil Lighthouse by the docks.
- Find Ulfgar Fog-Eye and ask for the key to the basement.
- Go ahead and mention that you're Dark Brotherhood.
- It will make him give you the key faster.
- Walk around back and head down into the basement.
- Enjoy the creepiness.
- Kill his guard dog.
- Walk through the room and find the shrine to his dead mother and his insane journal.
- Note: The journal explains that the traitor was also responsible for the ghost ship in Anvil harbor.
- Tip: Take the head with you if you want to feel smart later.
- You now have some evidence to report to Lucian.
- Head to Applewatch farm to make your report.
Honor Thy Mother
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - Dark Brotherhood: Honor They Mother Quest (Time: 6:32)
- Little bit of a problem with your old plan.
- Your old boss is now strung up and butchered. Not good.
- The other members think your innocent though and you'll be promoted to his old position of speaker.
- The traitor was most likely promoted as well.
- The next dead drop note targeted Arquen so you know it isn't her.
- Drop the head on the floor and talk to the members.
- Only one of them will acknowledge it.
- That's the traitor. Not that you can actually do anything about it.
- Talk to Arquen between midnight and 3 AM to start the next mission.
- She'll take you to visit the Night Mother so she may name a new Listener.
- It turns out that her crypt is below the Lucky Old Lady in Bravil.
- Walk down and watch the cinematic.
- The traitor Bellamont will knife both of the other members and just leave you and Arquen to protect the Night Mother.
- Just hit him a few times to end it all.
- He just uses a little dagger.
- Once he's dead the Night Mother will congratulate you and explain her purposes in this exercise.
- You should take the chance to loot the three chests in the crypt.
- You will never be able to access the crypt again.
- Talk to the Night Mother again to receive your orders. You are to be the new Listener and Arquen is your assistant.
Whispers of Death
- You are now the leader of the Dark Brotherhood.
- Arquen will rebuild the Sanctuary in Cheydinhal and hire a few murderers who can accompany you into battle.
- The only thing left is to report to the Night Mother through the statue once a week.
- You can do this whenever you feel like and you will not be punished for forgetting.
- She's gives a name that needs to be contacted.
- If you take the information to Arquen you will earn 200 gold.
- None of the people are real though. You will not be able to carry out the missions yourself.
- Congratulations. You completed this arc.
The Origin of The Grey Prince
- YouTube: Oblivion Walkthrough - The Arena: The Origin of The Grey Prince Quest (Time: 3:12)
- Note: You have to take this quest before you challenge him for the Grand Championship.
- The Grey Prince is the current Arena champion.
- If you talk to him you can ask about his heritage.
- He'll explain that he was the illegitimate son of a Nobleman living in a place called Crowhaven.
- He wouldn't recognize his son and he ran his Orc mistress off.
- The Grey Prince will go on to say that his mother recently passed away and that she passed down a key to a room in Crowhaven.
- This key will unlock his true past.
- He can't go on the journey due to his schedule so he asks you to do it for him.
- Crowhaven is located to the north of Anvil.
- Head to the old fortress and fight your way to the main door.
- There will probably be a few leveled skeletons outside.
- Head in and start walking down the path.
- Only a few wolves patrol the hall.
- You can choose to head down into the Burial Halls for a little loot.
- There's a few vampires, a couple ghosts, and a zombie or two.
- The loot itself isn't that great. The main bonus is collecting some vampire dust to turn into the Order of the Virtuous Blood for 250 gold a piece.
- Once you're done follow the other route and keep moving along until you come to a locked door.
- Your key will open it and let you into Lord Lovidicus' Bedroom.
- Head down the circular path until a crazed man wielding a dagger attacks.
- This is Lord Lovidicus.
- Kill him.
- It shouldn't be too hard. He just has a dagger and he doesn't wear armor.
- Once he's dead keep walking up into his room and pick up his journal off the table.
- If you read it you'll learn that The Grey Prince is the son of a vampire and his mother ran away out of fright.
- Pray at a chapel of your choice.
- You most likely have Porphyric Hemophilia. This is the first stage of vampirism. You will need to cure it if you don't want to be a vampire.
- Once you're done head into the Bloodworks and talk to The Grey Prince.
- You'll receive some special training that adds 3 points to Blade, Block, and Athletics.
- He'll be devastated by the news though.
- Note: Doing this quest will effectively hand you the place as Grand Champion. He will refuse to attack you in the match and demand that you kill him.
Rules
- The rules for the arena are pretty simple.
- You have to wear their official raiment. They offer light or heavy versions based on your fighting style.
- No looting is allowed.
- You provide your own shield, helmet, and weapon.
- Fights are only held during the day.
- You can't bet on a fight while you have a fight pending.
- You must already be wearing the raiment when you talk to Owyn for a fight to be scheduled.
- Changing to new armor in the ring isn't allowed.
- Everything else is allowed.
- Tip: If your raiment is damaged you can get another out of the cabinet next to Owyn.
- Tip: Don't carry your raiment around unless you plan to keep wearing it. It is very heavy and should just be put into the rainment cabinet at the Arena once you're done.
Fight Club
- This isn't really a quest.
- If you read the note by Owyn you'll see that he has a daughter called Branwen.
- She trains outside the arena to try and make him recognize her.
- The point is that you can go watch her and her partner spare.
- If you watch them for a few minutes you'll receive a 5 point boost to your Hand-to-Hand skill.
Arena Basics
- The process for fighting is pretty simple.
- Talk to Owyn and tell him that you want to fight.
- He'll let you choose a raiment and give you the rules.
- Tell him you're ready for a fight after that.
- Head up the opened blood ramp and enter the Arena.
- Walk up to the gate and wait for the announcer to open the gate.
- Run into the arena and kill your opponent.
- Walk out the door and back into your side of the Bloodworks.
- Use the altar at the bottom to completely revitalize your magicka, your fatigue, and your health.
- Talk to Owyn when you're ready for more.
First Fight
- You will be going up against a Nord who is very quick. He will smash away at you with an axe.
- Mages and Archers will have a problem. Try to run away and stagger him with strong magic. You can just up onto blocks in the arena to get away from him and pick away at his health.
- Fighters will have no problem. Just block his attacks until he's staggered. Then just slash or hammer away.
- Once he's dead talk to Owyn for 100 gold.
Second Fight
- Next you'll be facing two opponents.
- They are two Wood Elf sisters.
- One uses a bow and the other uses a claymore.
- The archer will sometimes use a Chameleon potion to hide at the beginning.
- Regardless, just wait it out. The sister with the claymore is much more dangerous. Just block and counter. It is very hard to block effectively with a claymore.
- Once the sister with the claymore is dead you can just rush the archer and quickly kill her.
- Go back to Owyn to get 100 gold.
Third Fight
- This is basically just like the first fight.
- You'll be fighting a Khajiit with an axe.
- Mages just need to run a lot more and stagger them with magic.
- Fighters should just duke it out with him to eliminate the speed advantage.
- Once he's dead just talk to Owyn to receive 150 gold and an advancement to Bloodletter.
First Fight
- Your fight fight is against a Wood Elf.
- His big selling point is an enchanted dagger called Shimmerstrike.
- It's weak though and still a dagger.
- Block his attack and keep an eye on your health. Daggers are worthless against a good fighter and a mage won't get hit in the first place.
- His dagger should be no match for you in the end though.
- Once he's dead talk to Owyn to receive 200 gold.
Third Fight
- You'll be facing a heavily armored Orc with a battleaxe.
- A good warrior should be able to stagger him a bit with standard blocking.
- Mages should be sure that they keep their distance. He can really hurt if you're hit with a power attack.
- Once he's dead talk to Owyn to receive 250 gold and an advancement to Warrior.
Third Fight
- You will be facing a really tough Orc.
- She is armored and armed with a really strong warhammer.
- This slows her down a bit though. Mages and archers should have no problem using hit-and-run tactics.
- Fighters will have a problem though.
- You'll need a high Block still to not be staggered by the hit.
- You'll probably need to use hit-and-run tactics to get in a good shot or two before she swings the hammer.
- Once the Orc is dead just talk to Owyn to receive 300 gold and an advancement to Gladiator.
First Fight
- This can be really hard or really easy.
- You will be facing three Argonian convicts.
- Only one might use a sword.
- They usually just use their hand-to-hand combat against you.
- Here's the problem.
- At low levels you won't have one. Hand-to-hand is too weak to do any real damage. Just take them out one by one.
- You have a problem after about level 10.
- At this point their hand-to-hand combat is very tough. it will have a lot of staggering and even paralyzing effects.
- It doesn't help that they have great AI and will use it to constantly surround you.
- A power attack to the back isn't fun.
- Fighters need to just wade in and start swinging.
- Focus on killing one of them. Getting rid of the first one makes it much easier to kill the other two.
- Don't bother to block. Their power attacks break through and you're usually surrounded.
- Mages will have a big problem since there are three of them and they're very fast.
- Summon creatures and use your best spells to kill them one at a time.
- Once you take care of the first one it's almost over.
- Once they're dead talk to Owyn for your welled earned 300 gold
Second Fight
- You're fasting a khajiit in heavy armor.
- He uses a sword and a lot of healing potions.
- Fighters should use power hits to stagger him. This will let you damage him fast enough for his health to not even matter.
- If you can't do this, then just settle in for a war of attrition.
- Use your own potions to restore your health or magicka until he's finally dead.
- Talk to Owyn for your 300 gold.
Third Fight
- Your facing an experienced Breton.
- He's heavily armored and uses a sword.
- You'll find that he's a good blocker. Berserker tactics won't work.
- Settle in and use blocking and counterattacks to win.
- Mages and archers should just do their usual tricks.
- Talk to Owyn once he's dead to receive 350 gold and an advancement to Hero.
First Fight
- You'll be facing an Imperial who's a former Blade.
- He still uses their shield and katana.
- Make sure you have some potions in case he gets a good attack series going.
- Fighters just need to use a good mix of hit-and-run tactics along with blocking to wear him down.
- Mages and archers should be careful. His attacks do a lot of damage.
- Talk to Owyn once he's dead to collect 350 gold.
Second Fight
- You'll be fighting a High Elf who's a master at Destruction magic.
- He also uses a special enchanted shield called Gray Aegis. It protects him against mages.
- This is a joke for fighters.
- Just charge in and slash him a few times to kill him quickly.
- Archers could probably just switch to a dagger and do the same.
- Mages may even want to explore that option.
- Otherwise they should not bother with magic against him. Use conjures to help you pound away at him.
- Once he's dead talk to Owyn for 350 gold.
Third and Final Fight
- You are now taking on the last remaining members of the Yellow Team.
- You will be fighting an archer, a mage, and the Yellow Team's claymore wielding Champion. She's the jerk in the Bloodworks. It's time for revenge.
- You will be assisted by the boar Porkchop.
- Mages and archers shouldn't actually have a lot of trouble. Porkchop will keep one of them distracted while you merrily pick away at the other.
- Just use all your magicka to kill the Champion and use a dagger to take out anyone Porkchop didn't get.
- Fighters will have a bit more trouble.
- Porkchop seems to favor distracting the archer, which doesn't help much.
- The good news is that he can sometimes even kill the archer or the spellcaster.
- I usually reload if Porkchop dies, because the little boar will be your only friend in the training area soon.
- You will want to ignore the Champion and chase the mage.
- The mage will die in a few hits.
- The archer is usually just an annoyance so just ignore him.
- Duke it out with the Champion to kill her.
- Then just kill the archer if Porkchop hasn't gotten to them yet.
- Once it's over walk back to Owyn for 500 gold.
Grand Champion
- Before you even start this one you should complete the quest called "Origin of the Gray Price." Once you challenge him it won't be an option.
- Talk to Owyn and ask for another match.
- He'll tell you to talk to Ysabel Andronicus across from him to challenge The Gray Prince.
- Talk to her to learn about the new rules for the special match.
- You are allowed to wear your personal armor and you are actually encouraged to loot his body.
- Walk up to The Gray Prince and challenge him for the title.
- Walk back to Ysabel and tell her you're ready to fight.
- She'll ask that you choose a special arena name.
- Just pick one that you like.
- Head up the ramp and wait through the introduction.
- If you did the quest, this will be easy.
- The Gray Prince will run out and then refuse to fight you.
- He'll stand there and let you work away at his health until he's dead.
- If you didn't do this or experience a glitch, then have fun.
- He's very tough in a fight.
- He's very fast, very strong, and he has a lot of health.
- You will only be able to block his attacks if you are at a high Block skill level.
- Otherwise you'll just have to pick away at his health with hit-and-run tactics.
- Archers will need to use their best bows and enchanted arrows.
- Mages and archers should both look to using paralyzing spells to stop him from chasing them down.
- Once he's dead you need to loot the rainment from his body.
- Take the raiment back to Ysabel and to have your own Raiment of Valor crafted.
- You'll have to choose a heavy or light version.
- You will also receive 1,000 gold and the title of Grand Champion.
Grand Champion
- There aren't any more fights for you against humans.
- You can now choose to earn some money by fighting leveled monsters once a week.
- Just talk to Ysabel to start the fight.
- You can choose to fight one, two, or three of them depending on what you want to do.
- You'll get more money for bigger fights.
- You will also have an Adoring Fan.
- He can follow you around and die humorous deaths from sheer worthlessness.
- He'll usually respawn outside the arena.
- That's it for the arena.
- The Mages Guild
