The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind

  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is a 2002 epic fantasy role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios for the PC and Xbox. The game is the third installment in the Elder Scrolls series, and was succeeded by 2006's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
  • Story

The game takes place in the fantasy world Morrowind, in the Dunmer province, specifically on the island of Vvardenfell. The scope of the game is both smaller and more refined that previous entires in the series such as The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, featuring less overall explorable area, but more finite detail and craftsmanship to the world. The game starts with you getting off a prison boat in the town of Seyda Neen, beckoned by the Emperor. The evil demigod Lord Dagoth has acquired the Heart of Lokhan, a powerful relic that turns him invincible. The main mission of the game calls for you to travel to the Red Mountain, where Lord Dagoth resides, and destroy him before his power grows too great and he drives everyone from the land.
  • Gameplay

Morrowind has open-ended gameplay that allows you to play the game however you want. There are more than 20 different character classes to choose from, including choices like barbarian, spellsword, and assassin. Or you can have the game choose a class for you based on your decisions. If that doesn't appeal to you, you can also create your own class in the character generation system. Each character class has five major skills, five secondary skills, and a specialization in combat, magic or stealth. There are almost 30 different skills to choose from. and you gain levels by practicing your character's main skills. Combat is a hack-and-slash that is done in a first person point-of-view. With melee weapons you can pull off three different types of attacks. You can also create your own spells or even combine items together with your weapon and create stronger weapons and learn various spells (like flying) and basically become god-like. There are more than 10 different factions you can join, from a fighter's guild to a sanctioned assassin organization. Most of these will initially extend membership to you. In the PC version of the game, you could create your own quests, characters, and scenery through the Morrowind Construction Set. This feature is missing from the Xbox game. Unlike other games, looting from houses and killing townsfolk will be reported as a crime and you will be chased by police from that town.
