The Dramatics

The Dramatics are a soul and R&B music group who formed in the 1960's. The group's most successful songs were released during the 70's, and included songs such as "(I'm Going By) The Stars In Your Eyes", "In The Rain", and "Me and Mrs. Jones".

The group was formed in 1962 under the original name of The Dynamics in Detroit. The name was changed in 1967. The Dramatics were known mostly as a successful charting group with the R&B ranks. In 1967, they charted on the Billboard R&B 100 for the first time with the single All Because of You.

Their first major breakthrough into the mainstream musical landscape occurred in 1971 when the title track from their album Whatcha See is Whatcha Get reached the #9 spot, and went as high as #3 on the R&B charts. Their best charting happened the following year when In the Rain went all the way to #5 on the Top 100 and #1 on the R&B charts.

The group would wind up with 12 singles reaching the Top 100, and 35 singles on the R&B 100 charts. These included remakes of the Billy Paul classic Me and Mrs. Jones in 1974 and the Simon & Garfunkel classic Bridge Over Troubled Water in 1989.

The original six members of the group were Ron Banks, Willie 'Wee Gee' Howard, Elbert Wilkins, Willie Ford, Larry Demps, and James Mack Brown. WIlkins passed away in 1992 from a heart attack. Howard died in 2000. Brown died in 2008. Banks, who was credited with being the founder of the group, passed away from a heart attack on March 4, 2010http://www.usnewsdot.com/dramatics-founder-ron-banks-dead-at-58.html. Ford and Demps are the lone survivors from the original group. Over the years, men such as L.J. Reynolds, Lenny Mayes, Winzell Kelly, and Michael Brock.

They have made numerous television appearances over the years, most notably during the height of their career in the 1970's on Soul Train.
