The Day After Tomorrow tells the story of the world coping with a new ice age. The main characters are forced to make life-altering decisions and fight to stay alive through a massive storm. Starring Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Emmy Rossum the film shows a glimpse of the possible effects of global cooling. The movie itself was inspired by the book The Coming Global Superstorm by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber. Although some of the science portrayed in the movie is questionable the film helped to encourage discussion of global warming issues worldwide.
