  • Career Overview

The members of The Datsuns formed their first band, Trinket, while still in high school. In 1997, they won a local Battle of the Bands near their home town of Cambridge, New Zealand, changing their name to The Datsuns soon after.

Throughout the late 1990s, the group self-released a number of records, entirely on vinyl, through their own label, Hell Squad Records, and built up a fan base through their energetic, intense live performances. They embarked on their first Australian tour in 2001.

The band was signed to the V2 label in 2002 and released their self-titled major label debut shortly thereafter. This was followed by 2004's Outta Sight/Outta Mind and Smoke and Mirrors in 2006.
