The Covenant

  • Renny Harlin's The Covenant follows four students at a New England university who are bound by a covenant started by their magical ancestors in the late 17th century.
  • Critical Reception

The Covenant was one of the most poorly reviewed films of 2006, earning a 3% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 19 on Metacritic. The Boston Globe's Ty Burr calls it "dopey", "formulaic" and "never remotely scary." The New York Times' Nathan Lee appreciates a car that gets destroyed and magically reconstructed, but dismisses the rest of the film.
  • Box Office

The Covenant performed modestly at the domestic box office, earning $23 million dollars in its several weeks of release. It was the #1 film the weekend of its release, although that weekend was considered one of the weakest for new films of the year.
