The Cosby Show

NBC family comedy television sitcom The Cosby Show originally aired for eight seasons 1984-1992 and starred Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad. The show was based on the Huxtable family, from Brooklyn, New York and highlighted real family situations and the humor in daily life. The Cosby Show received many awards and honors, including three Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and has been cited by critics and fans to have been one of the greatest shows on television.

Finale

The night of the finale of The Cosby Show was also the second night of riots caused by verdict in the Rodney King trial. The Los Angeles mayor Tom Bradley successfully lobbied KNBC-TV to air the episode in hopes of keeping more local people at home and off the streets.
