About the Game
Taking place immediately after the events of the first game, Assault on Dark Athena puts players in the shoes of Riddick, accompanied by Johns (a bounty hunter who appears in Escape From Butcher Bay) as they hurtle through space. Eventually, a pirate ship called "Dark Athena" locates them and subsequently holds them against their will.Riddick, voiced by the ever-rebellious Vin Diesel, refuses to let the story end that way and goes on a pirate-killing rampage as he investigates the ship and frees prisoners who had been captured before him.
Relationships with other prisoners are crucial to the player's success in Dark Athena as some will allow further progression of certain parts of the story or provide additional side-quests for Riddick to engage in.GameSpot: Assault on Dark Athena Preview (January 8, 2009)

The Story
- Richard B. Riddick is an interstellar criminal. He's known throughout the galaxy for his brutality, cold-blooded personality, and prowess with blades. You control Riddick in Assault on Dark Athena after he's escaped from prison in Escape from Butcher Bay.
- The events of Assault on Dark Athena preceed movies featuring Riddick, including Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.
- In Assault on Dark Athena, Riddick is traveling with a prisoner of his own: Johns, a mercenary bounty hunter who previously captured Riddick and took him to Butcher Bay. Riddick later kills Johns in Pitch Black.

Controls
- You can move Riddick around using the Left Analog Stick. Use the Right Analog Stick to look around the environment and aim weapons.
- As Riddick, one of your major weapons is the ability to hide in the shadows. You can hide by pressing X to go into Stealth Mode. When you move into darkness, you'll know you're hidden when the screen takes on a blue tint.
- While in darkness, you can use Riddick's Eye Shine ability by pressing Up on the Directional Pad. This removes Riddick's goggles, amplifying light. In bright light, you'll be blinded by the Eye Shine, but in darkness, it gives you an advantage over your enemies.
- You can jump using the A button. You won't always need this ability, but occasionally will need to jump off different platforms or climb structures.
- Press Y to climb certain structures. Riddick can "mantel" ledges he can reach with Y and climb up to them. You can also use Y to catch ledges while jumping. Finally, if you see a hang rail above you, you can use Y to take hold of it and use it to handwalk to another area.

Combat
- You'll need to fight enemies pretty much all the time. You can do this with three different kinds of weapons: Your hands, a melee weapon, or a gun.
- Equip weapons by holding the Left Bumper to pull up all the weapons you have with you. Choose which one you want with the Analog Stick.
- Attack with your hands or melee weapons, or fire guns, using the Right Trigger. You can also use the Right Trigger to initiate counterattacks. Do so by watching for Riddick to open his hands as an enemy prepares to attack, or for the melee weapon to flash, and Riddick will catch the enemy attack and execute a brutal counter.
- While you're fighting hand-to-hand or using melee weapons, you can block an enemy's attack with the Left Trigger. This will often allow you to attack the enemy as he reels from bouncing off your block.
- While using a gun, you can use B to swing the gun like a melee weapon.
- After killing an enemy, you'll often want to hide the body to keep it from alerting other enemies that you're around. Go into Stealth mode and press Y to drag the body into the shadows. You can also use certain drone enemies' weapons by grabbing them with Y after they're killed.
- When above enemies, you can kill them by dropping on them, in addition to your other abilities.

Missions and Collectibles
- As you go through Dark Athena and Butcher Bay, you'll find sympathetic characters that will give you missions. Speak with them with Y.
- When you receive a mission, you can read your objectives and other information by pressing the Back button.
- You'll also run across special items throughout the two campaigns. Picking these items up can be good for certain Achievements and opening additional bonus content.
- Access your list of collectibles by pressing the Back button. You'll find a complete list of the collectibles in Assault on Dark Athena in the Campaign section.
