Chronicles of Riddick:Escape from Butcher Bay, and it's sequel Assault on Dark Athena, work as prequels to the film Pitch Black.In the game Butcher Bay, players take control of Riddick, a dangerous criminal who is being escorted by a bounty hunter named Johns. The events in Dark Athena take place directly after those in the first game and, presumably, will also shed some light on how the plot for the film Pitch Black comes to be.
In the film, Riddick is still being escorted by Johns, as well as a crew that is unsure of both of their origins, when they crash-land on a deserted planet. The planet shows signs that human settlers had once lived there, but upon further investigation the crew finds that strange creatures from within the planet's core are to blame for their disappearance.Rotten Tomatoes: Pitch Black
