The Castle of Cagliostro

  • The Castle of Cagliostro is a 1979 Japanese animation movie. The director, Hayao Miyazaki, is a well known Japanese animation director. Cagliostro is his feature film debut. The movie is about a gang of thieves trying to free a princess from an evil count while searching for a hidden treasure. The film is available in Japanese, French and English. "Cagliostro" won an award from Mainichi Film Concours in 1980. The film was released in the USA in 1991. This film is part of the Lupin series.
  • Plot Synopsis

    Thief Lupin (Bob Bergen) plans and executes a heist at a Monte Carlo casino. Upon looking at the loot, he realizes the money is counterfeit. The fake bills are traced back to the country of Cagliostro; it is later discovered that the evil Count is producing the bogus bills. Lupin gathers some friends and together they go to confront the Count. They meet a beautiful princess who is being forced to marry the Count. It is discovered there is a large hidden treasure that Princess Clarisse (Sumi Shimamoto) has part of a key to, so they rescue the princess and go off in search of the treasure.
