Career
In 1927, A.P., Sara and Maybelle Carter traveled to Bristol, Tennessee, to make their first recording for Victor producer Ralph Peer.
By the 1930s, the Carters had landed several radio contracts and had sold several hundred thousand records. Their top sales and frequent radio airplay made them the first group of stars in American country music. June Carter joined the group in 1939, at the age of ten.
The group broke up in 1943 along with A.P. and Maybelle's marriage. Maybelle went on with her own career featuring several of her daughters, who toured well into the 1960s.
