Richard and Karen Carpenter were a Grammy award winning brother and sister duo from New Haven, Connecticut known as The Carpenters. Throughout the 1970s the Carpenters produced a distinctively soft musical style that made them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In 1983 Karen Carpenter passed away at the age of 32 from heart failure caused by Anorexia. The extensive news coverage of following her death increased public awareness of eating disorders and its dangers.
