The Buzzcocks

  • The Buzzcocks are considered one of the most influential bands of the original British punk rock movement. Known for exploring romantic angst while their contemporaries mined anger and alienation, the Buzzcocks' were also one of the first punk bands to brighten their sound with pop melody. That innovation had a strong influence on many subsequent bands, including Green Day, The Queers, Chicago's Naked Raygun and Sacramento's FM Knives. The band's core members are singer/guitarists Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle—original singer Howard Devoto departed in 1976 to form the more art-rock oriented band, Magazine. While the Buzzcocks initially disbanded in the 1981, they have reunited several times since. Their most recent album is 2006's well-received Flat-Pack Philosophy.
