  • The Blair Witch Project is an independent documentary style horror film pieced together from amateur footage. The film follows three student filmmakers as they create a documentary about a local legend the Blair Witch, an evil sorceress who lived during colonial times. The second movie Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 is a more conventionally-styled sequel film, with the studio re-cutting and re-shooting certain scenes to add in more traditional horror movie elements and cinematography.
  • Guerilla Marketing

The advertising campaign leading up the the film's release was done in a unique style that confused many moviegoers. Flyers about the three missing protagonists were posted around colleges and universities nationwide, and the television commercials were also done in the film's documentary style, prompting many to mistakenly believe the film depicted real events.
