The Black Dahlia

The Black Dahlia is a semi-fictional Film Noir thriller about the unsolved 1940's murder of 22-year-old aspiring actress Elizabeth Short. The murder has long been grist for speculation by conspiracy theorists, and the film picks up on the theme (although further detail would constitute a spoiler). The film is directed by horror auteur Brian De Palma and based on the book by crime novelist James Ellroy. The Black Dahlia received a mixed reception from critics upon release, with The New York Times's Manohla Dargis calling it a "restrained, awkward film."
