Plot Synopsis
The Big Chill is the story of old college friends from the 1960s who reunite in the early 1980s after the suicide of one of their mutual friends. After Alex (Kevin Costner in an off-camera role) slits his wrists for reasons unknown, the old pals Sarah (Glenn Close) and Harold (Kevin Kline), Karen (Jo Beth Williams), Sam (Tom Berenger), Nick (William Hurt), Meg (Mary Kay Place), and Michael (Jeff Goldblum) all meet up for the funeral and spend an unforgettable weekend catching up and waxing nostalgic. During the weekend, they are introduced to Chloe (Meg Tilly), Alex's live-in girlfriend at the time of his death, who is an outsider to the gang of friends. Against the backdrop of Motown music, backyard football, good food, and drugs, the friends wrestle with personal problems, old romantic feelings, and reconciling their old counterculture ways with their new yuppy lives. -
