  • The Making Of

The rights to Hansen's novel were acquired in March 2004 and Andrew Dominik was attached to adapt, as well as, direct the story with the idea that Brad Pitt would play Jesse James. It was the role of Robert Ford that was in question. Shia LaBeouf was considered, but because he was too young, the role went to Casey Affleck. Filming took place in Calgary and at several ranches at Fort Edmonton Park. Domink's intention of the film was to be in the style of Terrence Malick, but the studio wanted a more Clint Eastwood style approach.
