On the season premiere of the 13th season of The Amazing Race, teams were introduced and started their journey from Los Angeles, California. They made their way to Brazil. The first team to come in last place and be eliminated were the beekeepers, Arthur and Anita Jones. The Amazing Race 13 Episode 1
- Welcome to the season premiere of The Amazing Race, season 13!
- Eleven teams will embark on a race around the world with the grand prize being one million dollars. The teams are brought to the Los Angeles coliseum in 1940s classic cars.
- The couples competing are Toni and Dallas, a mother and son team from northern California.
- Nick and Starr are siblings from New York and Texas.
- Ken and Tina are married, yet separated. Ken admits to having made bad decisions in the relationship, including cheating on her. They are from Tampa, Florida. They think they will know at the end of the race whether or not they want to get back together.
- Aja and Ty are dating long distance. She believes their distance makes their relationship stronger. He feels they were made for each other.
- Marisa and Brooke are two southern belle's from South Carolina. They are into fashion and love to bake cupcakes.
- Andrew and Dan are fraternity brothers from Phoenix, Arizona. They love parties, girls and booze.
- Anthony and Stephanie have been dating four years. They are from Los Angeles. She wants to get married soon, if it doesn't happen soon she feels they will break up.
- Anita and Arthur are married beekeepers. They have a farm in Fall Creek, Oregon. They feel they have the experience to get the job done.
- Christy and Kelly are both from Texas and recently divorced. They feel because they have had many of the same hardships they will be able to work together well.
- Terrance and Sarah are a new couple from New York City. She is a slave-driver and he is a free spirit.
- Mark and Bill are best friends from San Diego. They are proud comic-book geeks.
- These teams will travel more than 33 thousand miles. Who will win the one million dollars?
- There are 11 legs in the race. At the end of each race is a pit stop. Eight of these pit stops will eliminate the last team in. The first clue is on top of their luggage at the top of the stadium. From there they will enter a car and go to their first destination.
- Anita and Arthur are last up the stairs to get the clue. They have to chose one of two flights to Salvador, Brazil!
- Nick and Starr are in first place, Terence and Sarah are close behind.
- Toni and Dallas are in the car headed to the airport, they are singing a little "We're going to Brazil" happy song in celebration.
- Terence is happy they made the decision to hit the side street of Los Angeles, as they are not hitting any traffic.
- Mark and Bill are excited just to be on The Amazing Race.
- Anita and Arthur know they got a slow start, but are ready to play the game.
- Toni and Dallas are in third place, she wants him to pass the first two cars. Tina is hollering at Ken to start passing people. Aja told Ty to get in the carpool lane as it's faster.
- As Ken gets passed on the freeway, Tina is in the backseat with her jaw dropped.
- They are coming into the airport parking lot. Mass chaos! So far, everyone is getting on the American Airlines shuttle.
- Aja is in the airport, she's worried because she doesn't see a marked flag.
- Mark and Bill are the first to the right airline. Ken and Tina are second.
- Terence and Sarah catch up to Mark, Bill, Ken and Tina and shake hands for an introduction.
- Everyone else is running to the other side of the airport to join the three teams at the proper stop. Still no sign of Anita and Arthur. Introductions all around.
- Dan laughs and tells everyone the flight may be delayed. Ty gets a little snappy and tells him not to curse the flight like that. Dan says the United flight may be later, that's just how the airlines work, he knows because he used to work with the airlines. One of the guys whispers "He sure didn't work in customer relations."
- Anita and Arthur are at the airport! They hug everyone and head to the United counter.
- The American Airlines flight is now full! Andrew and Dan waited in line for nothing! Same thing for Toni and Dallas!
- Andrew, Dan, Toni and Dallas head over to the United Airlines counter.
- Nick and Starr ask Ken and Toni if they will join into an alliance with them for the first two legs of the race. Ken and Toni agree.
- The American Airlines flight is scheduled to arrive three hours earlier than the United flight. Mark, Bill, Ken, Tina, Nick, Starr, Terence, Sarah, Aja, Ty, Kelly and Christy.
- On the United flight we have Toni, Dallas, Andrew, Dan, Anita, Arthur, Marisa, Brooke, Anthony and Stephanie.
- When they land, teams must travel through the busy streets of Salvador, Brazil and find a sandwich shop, O Rei De Sanoiuche Pernil to find their next clue.
- The American Airlines connecting flight out of Miami is delayed. They are only 90 minutes late.
- Tina is nagging Ken about not knowing how to tell the cab driver to go fast.
- Once teams get the clue, it reads "Become a barista, old school style". Teams must choose a local vending cart and wheel it to the plaza to get their next clue. The cart is filled with items that fall off easily.
- Mark and Bill drop a shirt over the items to get them to stay on the cart. They laugh and say this is like driving the worst shopping cart in the world.
- Tina is getting frustrated at things falling off.
- Aja and Ty are working well with each other and staying positive, working as a team.
- Terence and Sarah are the first to bring their cart to the vendor.
- The next clue tells them to take a taxi to a military campground where they will sleep outdoors in mosquito nets. They will sign in to receive one of three departure times, all separated by 30 minutes.
- Ken and Tina are still having a hard time with the cart.
- Nick and Starr are the second to bring their vendor cart in.
- Terence and Sarah are signed in with the earliest departure time. Nick, Starr, Mark and Bill also get the early departure time. They will leave together at 9 am.
- The second flight has landed and they are on their way to their first clue.
- Maria and Brooke can't find the sandwich shop. They are in 10th place.
- Kelly and Christy are the first in the second group to get the vendor carts. Andrew and Dan are next.
- Ken and Tina checked in at the military camp, they are the last to receive the 9 am time slot.
- Toni and Dallas are having a hard time with the cart.
- Kelly and Christy made up time with the cart and are currently in 6th place when they turn their cart in.
- Anita and Arthur are in eighth.
- Marisa and Brooke are in dead last.
- Kelly and Christy are sixth to sign in. (And they are not happy about it.)
- Andrew and Dan are the first in the military camp from last flight.
- Kelly thinks Dallas is a good looking guy. She says she didn't come on the show looking for love, but "Who knows, anything could happen."
- Terence is upset because the moment they got to camp Sarah started talking with all the other teams. He wanted her to hold him and connect with him instead. (What!?)

- As released by their times, teams must travel by taxi to Pelourinho and locate a church to find their next clue.
- Nick and Starr's taxi driver has no idea where the church is. They ask him to follow Mark and Bill.
- Terence thinks Sarah is trying to hard to get people in the game to like her, he could care less if he talks with the other teams.
- Terence and Sarah are in first place as they make it to the church, but he's whining that she's running too fast.
- Mark and Bill are in second place, Nick and Starr are in a close third.
- The first detour! They must choose "Hard Way Up" or "Soft Way Down". In hard way up, they must make a spirtual pledge by climbing a huge stone staircase on their hands and knees. Once they reach the top, the teams must answer a question correctly to receive their next clue. If they are wrong, they must go back down by using the city streets and make the climb again. In soft way down, teams go to an outdoor elevator and have to climb down a 240 feet tall cargo net.
- Terence and Sarah pick the cargo net.
- Nick and Starr, Ken and Tina, Mark and Bill also pick the cargo net.
- Nick and Starr are the first to arrive at the cargo net. Starr is a little apprehensive about the height, but manages to make the climb down without barfing. Always a good thing.
- Ken and Tina, Mark and Bill are making their way down also. Terence and Sarah have dropped to fourth place.
- Teams must now make their way to the first pit stop at Forte Sao Marcelo or "Port on the Water." The last team to arrive will be eliminated.
- Nick and Starr get a local to lead the way and walk/run. Tina and Ken hop in a cab and waste a few minutes as they find out they don't need the taxi.
- Mark and Bill tell Terence and Sarah to go ahead as they are all on the net together.
- The first to the pit stop are Nick and Starr. As the winners of the first leg of the race, they have won a trip to Belize, sponsored by Travelocity. Five nights at a beach-front villa suite, snorkling and a river trip are included.
- Ken and Tina are the second team to the pit stop.
- So far, everyone has picked the cargo net until Andrew and Dan take their detour.
- Terence and Sarah are team number three to the pit stop.
- Anita and Arthur choose the cargo net.
- Toni is excited to be on the net with her son Dallas.
- Andrew and Dan are on their way up the huge stone staircase. There are guys playing drums all around them. One of them yells "This is ridiculous" as they make their way up.
- Mark and Bill are the fourth team to make it to the pit stop.
- Andrew and Dan made it to the top and are asked "How many steps did you climb up?" They have no clue, but are trying to count as they look down at all those steps. They guess 40 and they are wrong.
- Andrew and Dan are up for their second try up the steps.
- Kelly and Christy are team number five to make it to the pit stop.
- Aja and Ty are at the bottom of the net.
- Toni and Dallas are team six to the pit stop.
- Anita and Arthur are on their way down, slow but steady and with lots of encouragement to each other.
- Maria and Brooke are on the net. They are whining a bit about possibly being the first team eliminated and about the height.
- Andrew and Dan successfully climbed the steps and guessed the correct number of steps. Fifty-three.
- Anita and Arthur received applause from the on-lookers as they made their way off the net.
- Marisa and Brooke are down.
- Andrew and Dan are team seven to arrive at the pit stop.
- Aja and Ty are team number eight to arrive at the pit stop.
- Stephanie and Anthony are team number nine.
- Marisa and Brooke are team number ten.
- Anita and Arthur are the last team to arrive and have been eliminated from the race.
- They are happy that they gave the race their all. Arthur says it's a privilege to do this with Anita and with the 10 other amazing couples.
- Next week we can look forward to more of Terence's whining, this time about the Nick/Starr and Ken/Tina alliance. Mark and Bill can't believe they are in footrace against a football player.
