Pilgrims are a symbol often associated with Thanksgiving as a result of the first Thanksgiving feast held at the Plymouth Rock settlement.
Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving

One of the earliest recorded Thanksgiving feasts took place in 1621 at the Plymouth settlement. Thankful for their bountiful harvest, the pilgrims celebrated by feasting with the neighhoring Wampanoag tribe.
