  • Gameplay

As with traditional Tetris, players try to align blocks together to form lines. As more lines are created, the game speeds up. The goal is to play as long and score as many points as possible before the blocks reach the top of the level. In Tetris DS, players are able to move the formation of the current block even as it touches down on the rest of the stationary blocks.
  • Game Modes

There are several new challenges added to Tetris DS:

    • Mission: Players are asked to perform certain tasks such as using a certain block to complete a line, or clearing a certain line on the stage. If a task isn't completed by a certain time, incomplete blocks are added onto the stage.
    • Push: A 1-vs-CPU or 1-vs-1 contest. A 1x1 block is in the middle of the field, and players try to complete lines to force the stage and the blocks to their opponent's way. If the blocks touch the finish line of one of the players, the game ends. Blocks that don't connect with the rest of the field disappear.
    • Touch: There's a tower of blocks, with a cage of balloons at the very top. Players use the stylus and arrange the blocks so lines are formed and the blocks disappear. There is no time limit. The game continues until the cage hits the ground, or if the blocks become so jumbled the player is forced to quit.
    • Catch: A block floats around the screen. The player must catch blocks that are also floating on the screen. When the main block becomes 4x4 or bigger, it will detonate. The player can use the explosion to take out enemies or other blocks.
    • Puzzle: A screen shows an incomplete playing field. The player must choose a block that will clear the field. As the game progresses, players must choose blocks in a certain order to clear the field.
