Tesla Motors Inc. is an automotive company that specializes in electric cars. The company was founded in July 2003 by two engineers and is based in San Carlos, California. It also has assembly facilities in England and Taiwan.
On May 19, 2009, Tesla Motors and Daimler announced a partnership, with Daimler taking a 10% ownership in the company. GE Partnership?
During an interview for the May 2009 edition of Car and Driver magazine, CEO Elon Musk reported that the company had secured another round of funding, primarily led by GE. In February of 2009, energy secretary Steven Chu announced the Department of Energy would streamline its process for distributing its funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan. The new process would make the entire loan process for green energy companies faster.
