The Investigation
A joint investigation was conducted in 2007 between the West Virginia State Police's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Mercer County Sheriff's Department after the police department got a call that Blankenship was involved in downloading child pornography online. After a forensics investigation discovered over 600 images and videos of a pornographic nature with children, Blankenship was taken into custody. Blankenship plead guilty in December 2008 and was sentenced in May 2009. -
