Shooting of Fred Winters
Fred Winters was performing morning service in the First Baptist Church in Maryville, Illinois, around 8:00 a.m. on March 9, 2009, when Sedlacek allegedly walked up to him, started talking to him and shot him several times with a gun. Two churchgoers then struggled with Sedlacek, who had a knife, all three men were stabbed. Lyme Disease, caused by borrelia burgdorferi bacteria and spread through deer ticks, can cause neurological problems if left untreated.
