Terrence Williams is a professional basketball player for the New Jersey Nets of the National Basketball Association. Williams was the 11th pick of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Nets after playing four years with the University of Louisville Cardinals, where he displayed a versatile game, averaging 11.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists during his college career. Williams plays the shooting guard and small forward positions, but also has the ability to play point guard. He was voted to the third team NCAA AP All-America team his senior season. Williams owns an extensive sneaker collection he started during his junior high school days.
Williams didn't start or play significant minutes for the Nets at the beginning of his rookie season. However, he eventually gained time on the court as the Nets were in the midst of a 12-70 season without the playoffs in sight. Williams went on to win NBA Rookie of the Month honors for the month of April 2010. Williams recorded the first and only triple-double of his young career on April 9, 2010 versus the Chicago Bulls. Williams began his college basketball career during the 2005-06 season. He started 21 of 33 games as a freshman at small forward, averaging 8.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
During his sophomore season, Williams started all 34 games, leading the team in scoring (12.4 points), rebounding (7.0 rebounds) and assists (3.8). He was voted to the All-Big East Conference second team and Big East All-Tournament team.
Williams started all 36 games his junior season, averaging 11.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He was fourth in the Big East with an average of 35.9 minutes played per game. He was voted to the All-Big East Conference second team. Williams also became the 59th player in Louisville history to score 1,000 career points.
In his final year of college basketball, Williams started 36 of 37 games, averaging 12.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and a team-leading 5.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He became Louisville's 19th All-American selection, being voted to the AP All-American third team, but earning first team honors from the Wooden Award, Sports Illustrated and Lowe's Senior CLASS. Williams was voted on the second team for ESPN, Fox Sports and Rupp Awards. He finished his career as the only Louisville player with over 1,500 points, 900 rebounds, 500 assists and 200 steals.
