Personal Life
Malick was born to a father who was an oil executive. As a result, while growing up in Texas and Oklahoma, he gained work experience through employment in the oil fields. He went on to study philosophy at Harvard University, and went on to graduate and go to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. When he returned to the United States he worked as a freelance writer for news magazines such as Newsweek and Life. He married his first wife in 1985 and was divorced and re-married in 1998.
