About the Game
The Terminator Salvation game is set two years before the events of the film of the same name. It explains how John Connor went from being a regular fighter to the leader of the resistance. It was developed to serve as a complement to the film and fleshes out some of the relationships between John and other members of the resistance.Players can use a wide variety of weapons to assist them in their missions. The majority of these are similar to modern real-life firearms, since the game is set in 2018. Because of this, players will find that it can be tough sometimes to take down the advanced machines. They must combine their arsenal with a bit of strategy and, of course, take advantage of the various types of cover offered by the environment.
The game features an "Advanced Destructible Cover" system and effectively using the cover system is necessary to be successful in the game. Many enemies have a distinct weak point that can only be targeted by using cover to flank them. The environment is destructible and enemies can destroy objects that the player uses for cover, so it's necessary to stay on the move.TeamXbox: Exposed: Terminator Salvation's Cover System (April 29, 2009)

Normal Weapons
- These weapons will be the player's primary firepower throughout most of the game.
- M16 Assault Rifle
- Has good accuracy and moderate damage. It can take out the most common machines, including Aerostats and T7-Ts, but isn't as useful when facing the T600.
- R870 Shotgun
- Useful for dealing with Wasp swarm and Aerostats. It's also useful against other machines, but it's limited to close and mid-range attacks.
- M249 Machinegun - Less accurate than the M16, but deals more damage and has a larger clip. It's less effective against Aerostats, but is useful for dealing with Spiders and even T600s.
-
Heavy Weapons
- M79 Grenade Launcher
- Becomes available later in the game. It's useful against Spiders and T600s. The grenades it launches hit the target faster than a standard thrown grenade, but the slow reload time might be a turn off.
- RPG
- The ideal weapon for taking down T600 Endos and is the only really useful tool for dealing with the Hunter Killer while on foot. Look for this toy when an HK fight is imminent and use it to eliminate major threats, but get rid of it afterward for a more versatile weapon.

Explosives
- M67 Grenades
- This all-purpose item is useful throughout the whole game. It can be used effectively against T7-Ts, Spiders, and even the T600. Try tossing a grenade into large groups of enemies to weaken them, and then finish them off with another weapon.
- Pipebombs
- More powerful than a standard grenade, but players can only carry two at a time. Save these for T600s and Skinjobs, or use them to cripple multiple Spiders at once.
-
Turrets
- Used primarily during the rail sequences in the game.
- M2 Machinegun
- This turret is powerful enough to take down a Spider from the front and can easily deal with T7-Ts. It can be dangerous when facing T600s, however, because it leaves the player exposed. Fire it in short bursts, because it can overheat.
- MK19 Grenade Launcher
- Rapidly fires grenades at enemies and is a formidable threat to any of Skynet's ground forces. This can also overheat, but by then most enemies will have been obliterated.
-
Plasma Weapons
- In the early days of Skynet, plasma technology has not yet been perfected. Players will have opportunity to shoot some lasers later in the game, when they can hack and control a Hunter Killer.
