She moved to New York City at the age of 13 to pursue a career in acting. Polo married photographer Anthony Moore in April of 1997. The couple had a son together named Griffin. They divorced six years later in 2003. In 2004, she began a relationship with drummer Jamie Wollam. She had a daughter named Bayley born on December 20, 2007.
