Tennis Racquet

A tennis racquet is an essential piece of equipment used to play the game of tennis. The racquet is held by the player and used to strike the ball past the opponent. Variations of the tennis racquet are seen in such sports as badminton, racquetball, squash and table tennis.

There are several factors to consider when purchasing a racquet. The head size of a racquet determines how much of a hitting area. Generally a large head size means greater power, but less control and accuracy. The length of a racquet gives a player more range and power, but less speed and quickness. The grip of the racquet is important because it is a key component in determining control of the racquet. String pattern can affect the spin and angles of the ball being hit. Open string patterns give the ball better deflection angles, while closed string patterns provide better durability of the string. Balance of the racquet is used to shift the power and control of the instrument, a head heavy racquet gives more power, while a head light racquet gives more control. Frame stiffness is another important factor to determine strength, control and comfort. The stiffer the racquet the more power, while providing less spin and control.
