The University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers play college basketball in the Southeastern Conference. Led by Hall-of-Fame coach Pat Summitt, the program is considered not only one of the preeminent in all of women's college basketball, but in all of collegiate athletics, regardless of gender.
On March 22, 2009, the defending champion Lady Vols were upset in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tournament, falling to Ball State 71-55.
