  • The Gait

Tennessee Walkers exhibit a unique "running walk." It is a four-beat gait with a gliding motion, bobbing of the head and swinging of the ears. Some Walkers may snap their teeth in time. Traveling at speeds from 6 to 12 miles per hour, they can sustain this gait for long distances without fatigue and with great comfort to the rider. The gait is an inherited trait. The Walker is also known for the "flat-foot walk" and the "rocking horse gait."Oklahoma State University: [1]
