Tennessee Titans History
The Tennessee Titans are a professional National Football League team that plays in the South Division of the American Football Conference (AFC).
The Tennessee Titans are celebrating its 50th year of existence, when they started out as the Houston Oilers in 1960 in the American Football League (AFL), moving to Tennessee in 1997, and becoming the Titans in 1999. On April 1, 2009, the team unveiled their 50th anniversary logo, which incorporates elements from the team's beginnings as the Houston Oilers.City Paper: Titans Unveil Anniversary Logo
The team was originally founded in 1960 as the Houston Oilers, part of the American Football League. They won the AFL championships their first two years in the league, in 1960 and 1961. Following the NFL-AFL merger in 1970, the Oilers did not return to the post season again until they reached and lost the AFC Championship Game to the Pittsburgh Steelers in consecutive years: 1978 and 1979. Shortly after the 1995 season, it was announced that the team would be moving to Nashville, Tennessee starting in the 1998 season. The team actually made the move in 1997, where they were named the Tennessee Oilers. They played their home games at Vanderbilt University until their own stadium was completed. On December 22, 1999, right after their new stadium, LP Field, was opened, the team was renamed the Tennessee Titans. The Titans made their only Super Bowl appearance also in 1999. They lost Super Bowl XXXIV to the St. Louis Rams.
Stories of the 2009-2010 Football Season
- 1) Chris Johnson become the 6th player to rush for over 2,000 (2,006) for a season, finishing the 5th place in the Most Yards Rushed in a Season.
- 2) Chris Johnson breaking the record for the Most Yardage from Scrimmage (2,509), previously held by Marshall Faulk (2,429)
- 3) The Tennessee Titans, starting 0-6 under QB Kerry Collins (who previously led the Titans to a 13-3 record), finishes the season 8-2 under benched QB Vince Young, including a incredible 99-yard game-winning touchdown drive against the Arizona Cardinals.
Stories of the Offseason
- 1) RB Chris Johnson is holding out this off-season, wanting a new contract after his 2,000+ yard season. This season, he only made $550,000 under his contract, despite breaking records. However, a new contract will have to give Johnson over $40 million dollars, which the Titans possibly don't want to give up considering a possible lockout in 2011, and running backs prime usually only 5 years. Johnson has not attended OTAs, which are not mandatory and the team can not fine Johnson for not attending. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d818ab89e&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true<ref>
- 2) QB Vince Young recently had an altercation at a adult club, fans saying this will force Young to earn the trust of the organization again. There has been no official word as to what NFL Commissioner [[Roger Goodell] will do, whether it's to fine or suspended Young. As of late, Vince Young has been practicing at OTAs.

- 4) DE Derrick Morgan was selected as the 16th Overall Pick of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. The Titans went on to draft 5 more defensive players, and drafted 3 offensive for a total of 9 picks.
- 5) LB Gerald McRath, a rookie last season, dropped an appeal for the four-game suspension for taking illegal substances. McRath was in consideration for the starting outside linebacker position, which David Thornton (the original starter) will return after undergoing shoulder surgery. Other options still have former Titan & free agent Keith Bulluck, who's still recovering from a torn ACL.
