    1. The TMNT were created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 published by Mirage Studios, which ran from 1984 to 1989
    2. Archie Comics published a spin-off comic book from the cartoon show from 1988 to 1995 and Image Comics published a short run of comics in 1996 before Mirage Studios picked the series back up for publishing in 2001
    3. The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon television show ran from 1987 to 1996
    4. In 2003 the Turtles returned to television with a brand new cartoon series
    5. The TMNT have had three live-action movies and one computer animated movie

  • Brief Background

    The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are fictitious characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. They are four mutant turtles who live in the sewers of Manhattan, New York and who have been trained in martial arts fighting by their teacher Master Splinter; Splinter is a mutant rat.

    Throughout the series the Turtles' main objective has been to fight crime and evil, and their main enemy during this fictional journey has been Shredder.
