Ted Turner is a media mogul and philanthropist, most famous for founding the cable news station CNN. He pioneered the idea of a nationally broadcasted station, or "superstation." He is also an avid sailor, wining several yacht races including the 1977 America's Cup race. In recent years he has retired from business and focused his energy and resources into philanthropic works. He is also known for his many unorthodox views like banning men from public office for 100 years, and allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons. On April 3, 2008 he commented that in "30 or 40" years Global Warming will have had a significant enough effect on the planet that civilization will break down and people will be reduced to cannibalism.
