  • Ted Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, was finally arrested after a 17-year manhunt, in 1996. Kaczynski is serving a life sentence in the Supermax prison in Colorado.

In June 2009 Kaczynski went to court in an attempt to block the sale through auction of his personal diaries by the state. Proceeds of the sale would go to the victims of his crimes.

  • Background

Kaczynski had a childhood full of potential. He was intelligent enough to become an assistant professor of mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley by the age of 25, but resigned from the position within two years.

Moving to the wilderness of Montana, Kaczynski began to live off the land "off the grid." His younger brother David joined for a short time but then returned to the city life and modern living.

After wilderness developers began to infringe on what Kaczynski felt was his wilderness lifestyle, he wrote his famous manifesto. In it, he foretold of the dangers of technology and the death of a lifestyle that he felt was the correct way of life.
