The Finnish hockey team consists of native Finland ice hockey players who represent the country in international hockey competitions. Of the 23 players Finland is sending to compete in the men's ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Olympics, 18 are players in the National Hockey League.http://www.noc.fi/olympiahistoria/kisasivut/vancouver-kisasivut/in_english/ice_hockey_men/
The team has been competitive in recent Winter Olympics appearances, earning silver medals in 2006 and 1998, as well as bronze medals in 1998 and 1994.http://www.nbcolympics.com/hockey/insidethissport/medalists/men/newsid=387266.html#mens+hockey+medalists Team Finland also has an extensive history playing in the IIHF World Championships, making 51 appearances since 1939 and winning the gold medal in 1995.
The Finnish team has qualified for the medal round. After shutting out the Czech Republic team in the quarterfinals, they will face Team USA in the semifinals on February 26.
