Background
In 1920 Hockey Canada joined the Olympics and began participating although at this point the program was run by the Canadian Government. The Government of Canada formed Hockey Canada in 1968 and their duties were to oversee all ice hockey operations in Canada. That included amateur, university and professional. The new committee became responsible for managing the international ice hockey team selection, including Olympics and World Championships, although they did not oversee ice hockey within Canada until July 1994. At this point, Hockey Canada merged with the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, which had formed in 1914 to oversee Allan Cup play. http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.php/ci_id/6828/la_id/1.htm
