Tayshaun Prince is a small forward for the Detroit Pistons. He has won a NBA Championship with the 2004 Detroit Pistons. Many experts cite his defense against Kobe Bryant in the Finals as a major factor in the team's victory over the heavily favored Los Angeles Lakers.
Early Life
Tayshaun Durell Prince was born in Compton, California on February 28, 1980. He attended Dominguez High School and then later the University of Kentucky. In 2001, he was named the SEC Player of th Year and the Most Valuable Player in the 2001 SEC Tournament where he led the Wildcats to the Tournament Championship.
Pro Career
Prince was selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft, by the Detroit Pistons. Insulted by his draft position, he selected to wear the number 22 as a reminder to opposing teams that he dropped past them in the draft. In his first season he struggled to crack the rotation, but flourished in the playoffs with his excellent defense and surprising play. The following season he was made a starter, with Richard Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace, they would upset the heavily favored Los Angeles Lakers. His defense against Kobe Bryant in the finals secured his place as one of the elite defenders in the NBA game.
2009 - 2010 Season
During the 2009 - 10 season, Prince averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 34.0 minutes in 49 games for the Pistons. His season was shortened due to injury.
His best game came in a 110 to 107 win against the Houston Rockets on March 7. Prince had a season-high 29 points and gathered 10 rebounds in his second and final double-double of the season. The other came in a loss against the Los Angeles Clippers on February 24.
