Cycling Career
Phinney was inspired to begin cycling by his father, Davis Phinney. He accompanied his father to the Tour de France in 2005, and after watching the race and meeting competitors such as Lance Armstrong, he decided he wanted to compete in cycling. Phinney entered the U.S. National Cycling Championships in 2007. In his first ever competition, he won first place in track cycling.
