Taye Diggs is an American theater, film, and television actor from Rochester, New York. Diggs first began his career on Broadway and has segued onto the small and big screen. He currently stars as Dr. Sam Bennett on the Grey's Anatomy spinoff television show Private Practice.

Before the Fame
Born in New Jersey and raised in Rochester with his five younger brothers and sisters, Diggs attended studied musical theater at Syracuse University and first began performing at the Lakes Region Summer Theater in New Hampshire. His Broadway debut was in 1994 when he was cast in the ensemble of the musical revival of Carousel. Two years later he got his big break, originating the role of Benny in the Jonathan Larson musical Rent. -
A Man of Many Roles
Diggs continued his Broadway career starring in the revival of Chicago and as Idina Menzel's love interest Fiyero in Wicked. Diggs soon headed for television and in 1998 starred on the hit soap opera Guiding Light as well as his film debut in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Film roles have continued for Diggs such as The Wood, The Best Man and the remake of The House on Haunted Hill. In 2005 Diggs reprised his role of Benny for the film version of the musical Rent. -
