The Indian conglomerate Tata announced in late March, 2008, that it will purchase the Land Rover marque from Ford, following three months of negotiations. Also included in the deal is the purchase of the Jaguar, with a total price tag of $2.3 billion. Ford purchased Land Rover from BMW in 2000, for $2.7 billion. While the marque is among the top sellers in the United Kingdom, Ford has said that the sale is intended to help in its market struggles by allowing it to focus on its own brands.
