Tangela Smith is a professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA. She is the 12th overall pick by the Monarchs in the 1998 WNBA Draft.
Basketball Career
Tangela Smith attended George Washington High School then played for the University of Iowa. During her college she won Big Ten Player of the year award in 1998, All-American honorable mention and All-Big Ten first-team honors. In 1998, Smith was drafted by the Sacramento Monarchs and played six seasons with the team. She was traded for Nicole Powell of the Charlotte Sting in 2005. Tangela Smith was dealt to the Phoenix Mercury for the 2007 first overall pick in the WNBA Draft.
She also played Internationally including with the Taranto (Italy Pro League) in 2003-2004, with the Cracovia (Euroleague) in 2004-2005, and with the Galatasaray (Turkey Pro League) in 2006-2007.
